On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 20
Days you are available to admin on: Saturday , Sunday
How old are you? 20
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I have played about 60-80 hours in Harmony , 30 hours on Goobstation , 50 hours on Frontier and 40 hours on Rouny’s Marine Corps. In SS13 , I played Monkeystation for about 20 hours , tgStation for 30 hours.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? Not in SS14 or SS13 , sadly
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have never been banned in an SS14 server. I have once been banned on tgStation for creating a dangerous virus and releasing it as a non-head revolutionary.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I hope to protect servers from raiders and keep people chill. I prefer a MRP setting , but I also like to keep people from screaming at each other in LRP. I want to keep things civil and make sure that people remember that they are playing a game. I want to calm down people who scream in LOOC about breaking rules and shitsec when someone takes their insuls. Overall , I just want to make sure the game does not devolve into a hatefest , especially towards newer players who are more suspectible to abuse.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Bug fixes. I have no problem with talking to people , as long as things are civil , but I am not good at programming. I have no problem in putting in the elbow grease needed to learn what an admin needs to perform their job well , but I am not good at actually creating new code. I also dislike racists , transphobes and other radical haters.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
They should make sure that all of the problems of the players stay purely IC. An argument between two coworkers if fine , but screaming about rule breaking and hate speech in LOOC is unacceptable. We should keep this community safe and welcome for everyone. That is what admins should do , keep the experience both fun and to keep people from going at each others throats.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
Due to the increased amount of raiders and to help people! I feel like currently , SS14 and especially wizden needs admins to keep up with its rise in popularity. To create a stable and civilised community , we need to make sure that we monitor for any abuses and help those that need help! If we cannot teach newbies how to get into the game in a safe enviroment , the game will just bleed players and won’t develop further.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
While I like the MRP servers , I feel like LRP is currently too much like NRP. Players powergame too much , ignore the metashield or complain about it in LOOC and treat stuff like murder or command carrying sec gear too casually. Security often We should raise the standard , so that ALL servers are something that we can be proud of!
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Helping new players that require guidance , while simple , will give them happy memories that will allow them to keep playing! Clicking F1 to ask for help is often seen as “wrong” or “wasting the admins time” , which I feel makes new players depend on others for guidance , which can often go wrong. All it takes is a shitter that either attacks them , or steals from them , to make them frustrated at a stage where even a small amount of stress can make them quit permanently. Another thing I think admins do way not enough is utilising the pray mechanic! While not as important as teaching newbies , it could be used to increase the enjoyment and RP potential of players!
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Only once. I when I had been banned on tgStation , all I had gotten was a message of “Get banned bozo” and an instant gib from the admin. There was no potential for me to , in any capacity , learn what I did wrong or what I should have done. When I had learned , hours later , from the ban ticket the exact reason for my ban , which was the aformentioned creation of a deadly virus while being a revolutionary , I did not learn from my mistake and instead decided to quit tgStation altogether. As an admin , I feel like telling players how to improve in the future and what they did wrong is an important part of the admin-player communication. A person who is doing something bad may not always have bad interests in mind and may be making a honest mistake. Allowing them to explain themselves and apologise does wonders compared to an instant ban. Many bans are often issued too quickly and without enough explanation.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Yes , when I played on Grasshopper and taught new players how to play as both a graytider and a detective. While tiding lessons could be seen badly , I feel like the “Graytide” is an important part of both SS13 and SS14 culture. While playing a detective , I took delight in teaching security cadets the ins-and-outs of the many tools that a detective has. I took care to protect them from danger and to make sure they have a fun time. I also had a very grand time , when in Harmony , I had traded my TC to the admin to become a spell-wielding wizard , or another , when as a security officer , I prayed , while playing batman music all round , for batman cosmetics. The admin gave me a renamed security officer ERT suit “Batsuit” , hehe and gave me two batarangs for criminal catching. It was fun to expand my gameplay and roleplay potential and I think giving trusted players opportunities like this will make them stay more often.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
There are several ways I would respond to such a request. It would largely depend on the server and the players asking me.
- If this was an LRP server , I would either wait for the round to expand a bit , largely to allow the traitors to both be selected and start to come up with a plan and to see if the round needs any spice-ups. If it is a boring , slow round , I may do something like create a non major ( so a visitor ship , but not a ninja or dragon ) ghost role or order a mothroach crate or two from centcomm. If it is an exciting round , I feel like my intervention would disturb and oversaturate something that does not need additives. I doubt I would try to create a bigger event in a LRP server , but if I did , I would most likely start a vote first.
- If this was a MRP server , I would firstly ALWAYS wait for the round to develop a little bit. I could perhaps do something non-drastic like create some decor in preparation for a bigger idea , but not anything larger. As traitors are chosen , I would create a vote , asking the players if they want to spice up their game , and if yes , I would give them several choices in how. However , if I feel like the round does not require intervention , I would not create an event , taking care not to oversaturate the idea of an admin event. When an option would be chosen , I would take care to make sure that the shift is still kept civil , while at the same time making sure that the event is reacted to well. At the end of the shift , I would ask the players in lobby OOC what they liked and what would they change in a future event. The same obviously applies to any LRP events.
- The server is a HRP server - sadly , I have no experience with HRP servers. If I moderated one , I would most likely refuse to , quote , “do something funny” and would continue to do my job.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
- The HoS - I would firstly ask them why did they decide to coup the captain. Due to being HoS , they are both security and command , both of which are supposed to follow the server rules more closely then other rules. My next actions would depend on the reasoning behind the HoS’s arguments. If they try to explain it as a joke , a roleplaying situation or refuse to respond to my question , I would be forced to temp ban them and , if needed , role ban them from the position of HoS. However , if the reason for the coup is the Captain’s behaviour , I would cross-examine each of the 5 people’s messages to figure out if the coup is justified. If I come to the conclusion that the captain deserves the coup , I would allow the crew to take the captain to court , asking the QM to take them back to the station.
- The Captain - I would ask them why the station has attempted the coup. I would try to figure out the truth both from the actions of the round and the messages , about whether or not the captain deserved it. If they did , I would most likely allow the crew to judge the captain for their crimes , then temp ban them afterwards , while also rolebanning them. If they did not , I would most likely create an IC message from CentComm about the unlawful coup and depending on the stations reaction , I would either allow the shift to continue as normal , or send a deathsquad ( that largely depends on whether or not the crew breaks both server rules and space law ).
- The Head of Personnel - I would first ask them to return the weapons to the armory. As a non-security command member they are limited to a disabler and handcuffs. They should not be allowed to use a gun under these circumstances , as their life is not in mortal danger. Then , I would ask them about their support in the coup. Why did they think it was necessary and what is their reasoning both IC and OOC. If I find the player to be a “shitter” , meaning , the coup is unlawful and should not have happened , I would temp ban them and give them a roleban. However , if I find the coup is justified , I would allow them to arrest the captain. I would still issue them a warning for arming up as a non-combat command member.
- The Quartermaster - I would ask them about why did the coup happen. As with others , I would , after messaging them all , decide whether or not the coup is justified. If yes , I would tell them to return the captain to the station and based on their behaviour , issue them a warning. If it was not justified , I would reassure them that the situation will be handled.
- The Clown - Stealing the captain’s sword as a non-antag is a punishable offence. However , my actions would largely be dictated by the amount of time that the sword has been in the clown’s possesion. If they are keeping it just to spite the captain and as a joke , it is understandable , but it is still worthy of a warning and it should be returned shortly. However , if they are hiding it in their bag and are acting like an antagonist , they deserve to be temp banned.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
Firstly , I would not indefinietly ban them. As a person who has gotten their first offense , they do not deserve a permament ban , especially if this is a situation I have been told deserves merely a temporary ban. Secondly , I would ask the admin who has pinged me why they feel the person deserves a permament ban. An explanation would be needed , as it is possible the admin is reporting an alt account of a person who has often caused problems. However , it is also possible that the admin themselves is a bad person , and as such , the ping should be reported to a headmin , even if the report will not be read instantly. Such behaviour could create problems if the admin decided to permaban people who did not deserve it in the past. It is important to make sure that people in charge of bans do not issue them too often.
