Length of ban: Indefinite
Ban Issue:
I did not do what I was banned for

Events leading to the ban

I was playing as a technical assistant. It was only my third game in the engineering department, and I admittedly did not have full knowledge of all of engineering’s game mechanics. I had spent most of the early round going around and doing solar panel set-ups. At one point, a passenger requested my help in repairing some broken windows in an abandoned part of maintenance, which I aided them with.

As I was making my way to another set of solars, I was going through engineering to pick up some supplies on the way there. While doing so, I saw the AME, not currently running. Hoping to help out the engineering team even with my limited skills as a technical asisstant, I decided to set up the AME. Well, upon further research into the AME and how it works, I was doing what I thought was setting up the AME. As it was still only my third game in engineering, I did not realize that somebody else had already set it up, and that all I was doing was adding fuel to it.

Regardless, what I did was that I put fuel into the AME and turned the injection on.

It is 100% true that I set the injection to 24. I fully admit that.

What I want to say here, however, is that I set the injection to 24 out of ignorance. I simply thought that bigger number = more power, which is obviously quite wrong. I did not understand how the AME worked, did not understand the consequences of setting the injection to 24, and I should not have touched the AME due to that. I will 100% fully admit my fault in this matter.

I checked the power monitor in the next room, went back to check on the AME after I saw it had shut off, realized the canister I had inserted was empty of fuel, and so I put in another canister - this one full of fuel - picked up a station map, and started making my way towards the next set of solars to work on them.

A few minutes later, I was contacted by an administrator, asking me if I cared to explain. At the time, I was not aware of what I had done. She asked me what I had been doing, and I explained that I had been setting up solars and that at one point I had helped somebody repair a window in maintenance. I did not mention the AME because I was not aware of what I had done and the consequences of it. As far as I understood, all I had done was put some fuel in and pressed a button and turned a power generator on - it did not particularly stand out to me.

As I was interrogated further, I was asked why I did what I did with the AME. I explained to the administrator that the extent of my knowledge of working with the AME was to simply put the fuel in and turn it on. The administrator noted that nobody that round had told me anything about how to work the AME, and I agreed, because I had been told as such during my second round as technical assistant, not during that round, my third round as technical assistant.

I will fully admit that I was never told to set the injection rate to 24. I did so on my own, because I was ignorant of how the AME worked and should not have been manipulating it. I should have done more research, read up on the AME on the wiki, and educated myself before touching the AME. I did not, and I am responsible for that.

The administrator continued to accuse me of lying, before banning me and telling me to appeal it on the forums.

Reason the ban should be removed

I am honestly incredibly upset that I have been accused of lying to such a degree. I will fully accept responsibility for my mistake in messing with a mechanic that I did not have proper knowledge of, and will even accept something akin to a job ban for the engineering department due to this mistake. However, I protest greatly at the assertion that I was lying to the administrator. In my conversation with the administrator, I was confused (and, admittedly, afraid, since it is always terrifying to have an administrator contact you out of the blue without any knowledge as to why) and entirely uncertain of why I had been contacted. I did not understand that I had been contacted due to the AME situation until the administrator let me know that was why I had been contacted. I find it extremely upsetting that I have been accused of being a liar simply because I was confused and uncertain of what I had done wrong. To reiterate: that was my third shift as a technical assistant, and I had mostly been through training and solar work at that point.

Again, I fully admit that I did wrong with the AME, and am willing to accept punishment for it. I attempted to manipulate a mechanic of the game without fully understanding it, and caused a problem because of it. That is my mistake, and I own it.

But to say that I was “self-antagging” or “lying” is patently false. I made a mistake. I made a huge freaking mistake that deserves some kind of punishment, I agree. I was confused about the mistake. I explained myself as best as I could in my confusion. I elaborated upon my explanation, again as best as I could in my confusion. I apologize if I explained myself poorly or somehow came across as “dishonest” as a result of my confusion. But at no point was I “lying”, and nothing that I did was with the intent of “self-antagging”.

Thank you for your time.

Hi. I will prefix this with saying my bad.

I have already been reviewing everything, and you cleared up the one thing that was bugging me in the back of my mind on this.

I’m already in the process of reversing the ban, as I agree that it was done in error after diving into the logs a bit further. I apologize for the slightly hasty decision on my part.

Your “poor” explanation was in no way “poor” - it was merely a misinterpretation on my part, and after re-reading the discussion, and reviewing the logs from a different perspective I was able to understand the missing pieces and correct the msitake.
