Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers?
- I may’ve been job banned for something minor in 2013-14 but I don’t remember or have records of it.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?
Helping the community with any rule or griefer related issues so ban appeals, discord moderation, rules enforcement, reports etc
Ultimately I just want to help create a space people can enjoy.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin?
I’m terrible at running events or doing anything outside the realm of being as fair as possible of an admin.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Admins exist to ensure the game is fair and to interact positively with the community as ambassadors. Admins do not exist to be jack booted rule enforcers unwilling to listen to anything but the letter of the law.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
Honestly, I think you guys need it and I’ve been having a ton of fun playing on your servers
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
Its fine honestly, maybe the whitelist for Mander could be more specific to Mander and not mixed in with Hopper whitelist as that just encourages it to be an overflow server for the others when they’re full.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Helping players understand mechanics or rules in a kind and helpful manner, resolving bugs when they occur and doing things like running events.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I don’t think I’ve had a specific negative interaction with an admin, but I’m a bad example, too used to it from the other side I understand a little too well.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I’ve had good experiences just talking in public with admins, nothing specific server side but this is what I meant earlier by being ambassadors.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
This depends on the server RP.
On Mander I might try something like a health and safety inspector sent from CC with orders to be as exacting as possible. Basically funny bureaucracy man complains about a dead rat and threatens to close down the bar / kitchen or that the radiation in engineering is above safe levels and thus must be quarantined. Mander is mostly trying to create funny / weird RP interactions.
On a LRP server I might do something like send in a clown ERT to spread joy.
In either case, I’d like to get those observing a funny role to play and enhance the experience for those on station. As long as it doesn’t involve something that would have an impact on the actual game mode.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
Well this really depends on the HoS’s reasoning but the clown is the first point of interest as their actions are the most immediately harmful assuming the captain is hiding for a reason.
The clown would need to be contacted first and told to give up the sword as hes acting as an antagonist as a non-antag clown pranks should not come to a point the captain is running scared. At face value without prior history and assuming they follow directions this would be a warning.
Now things get more complicated, the HoP and HoS need to be contacted for their reasoning, the HoP should not be acting as security and I can only see an exception if the HoS does not have back up and has sound reasoning for his coup. HoS would largely also depend on reasoning, this could range anywhere from a warning to a job ban as the captain would almost need to be purposefully breaking space law or endangering the station for this to be reasonable. HoP is the lesser party here and would likely get a lesser punishment if any.
If the HoS’s reasoning is sound the captain may need to be contacted and resolved depending on what happened this is too abstract to make a conjecture on.
At face value it appears the QM is innocent and I cannot make any conjecture based on given information.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I’d ask why, only case I could see for this is the other admin is somehow aware of some prior infractions that weren’t noted. In either case I would not perma ban the player and simply apply the normal length ban, forcing players to appeal has always felt like you’re looking for them to beg forgiveness for ego’s sake unless it was a serious infraction. Past that I’d try to politely ask they either properly note the behavior or relax a little bit and double check with a headmin later on down the line.
