Nerf Slips/stun meta

Just copying and pasting Armok’s post from Discord into Discourse (heh)

Everyone hates them.

Sec hates soap

Antags hate 3 hit stun meta

No one is happy with how they are.

Every single slip stun time could be halved / slipping could make you not drop what’s in your hands. Everyone is happy.

Baton / disablers could take more hits to work.
They’re the strongest melee in the game for some reason.

Nocturne, chloral, and tranqs could be removed / changed to only slow down.
It never feels good to be at the receiving end of these, both from a syndie or from a CMO.

quite literally everyone says this, and we all agree.

Imma make a pr for it once the freeze is over

A few issues with slips that I’ve gathered from my own experiences
1, Lube can’t be walked on at ALL and it’s super common
2, Soap can be placed right under you and hidden, its also extremely janky with how it can be quickly placed and picked up allowing you to place soap under someone’s feet as theyre chasing you without counterplay and it’s also super common
3, Lag/hitboxes can be really strange, you see someone slip slightly on soap you place but instantly get up because of lag, no noslips are afoot and its just jank.
4, Slips are super hard to counterplay without the delays and tile movement that ss13 had. Its real time in 14 which means there can quite literally be no reaction time to react to certain slips and it also may be hard to be conveyed where the slip is.

SOLUTIONS(?)

1, Make it so you can either walk on it without issue, or make it so you could functionally tap-walk across it without slipping (And make it less common)
2, Soap no longer slips you if it is beneath an item on the ground and It only slips you if you were to walk ONTO it, not off of it (If you are already touching the soap). Otherwise just see option 4
3, Yea i dunno bout this one, I think fixing 2 and atleast considering 4 and trying to find what we can get from it may fix this as a side effect
4, The solution to this one is difficult to think about But I honestly think it would be wise to have loose-items be stuck on a grid similar to 13, not only making item-piles more organised but fixing several other issues like camera rotation, QoL for chefs and bartenders and making the game visually convey several things far better including the slips at hand. It would be confusing how this would interact with things that ARENT stuck to the grid like lockers and such so take it as you will. Its very unrealistic but its something to consider.

We did this downstream and are testing it to see how people feel about it. If positive it could be potentially moved upstream

I already have a PR up, it’s just frozen currently

imo slips should disarm you but not stun you for 3 seconds straight (other issues include visibility of slippery puddles, walking and still slipping, and the feeling like noslips are mandatory)

hopefully once crawling gets implemented itl help LOADS
