New department concept, Mentors.

Recently I had an idea, of which I am aware it won’t get added anytime soon as we are still converting 13 to 14, and I think it could improve the new player experience.

Department mentors, whose only job is to teach assistants and interns the ropes of whatever department they are in. (This might not apply to sec, since sec already has cadets that follow and learn secoffs)

Would require even more time than the head of the department to unlock, as to make sure they know what they’re talking about.
Essentially, new players will follow them as they give them a tour of the department, explaining each machine and its intricacy on the way. They would then walk them through the process of using said machines so that they could learn to use them more efficiently.

Senior roles are designed to teach people. That was the intention, they are not above command either. Your idea is exactly what senior roles are.

>describes senior roles
>someone explains that’s just senior roles
>says that’s lame

real

iirc a senior refusing to teach interns is even ahelpable…

man i never got told seniors are mentors until now my fault my fault

i never read under senior roles because I assumed they were just rep roles

I think Senior Roles are a really good idea; at least on paper. I specifically didn’t mention them in my other thread because it still feels like Seniors are really early. It takes a lot of hours to become one and as such (at least at the times of day I play) I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen one in my department yet.

Once they become more common, if they work out the way they’re supposed to, I think they could go a long way in helping new players learn more advanced roles in the game.

I remember mentioning how there is a gap in learning. Where at the start when you’re like a Cadet, you learn alongside an Officer; for instance. Yet, once you’re out of ‘student driver’ and fully into an entry level role; you’re basically left to fend for yourself because everyone (including the department lead) is too busy doing their job to actually take the time to teach.

Sense Seniors are not an actual command role, they really could take a step away from the hustle of working a higher role and take the time to teach new players how to work the higher roles in a way that department leads really can’t.

I do hope this helps the game a lot. I just can’t really tell yet because the concept is still very early. I do think it’s a big step in the right direction.
