In-game Username: ngcmaniac
Discord username: ngcmaniac
Characters you play: Klaus Kacke
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 3-5 hours
Days you are available to admin on: Weekdays, between 5PM and 11PM
How old are you? 24
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? A little, maybe 20 hours?
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? Not outside of one 5 minute meme ban, I don’t think
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? Making sure that everyone is having fun, and no one is being a jerk and ruining others’ fun.
The odd occasion to nudge events in certain directions also sounds appealing, i.e. custom tasks, ERTs.
I primarily want to help take the pressure off of others on the admin team, as it seems they’re spread thin and could use some help.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Having to deal with people who are just jerks in general, but someone has to deal with them.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
I think admins are a guiding force, almost a dungeonmaster of sorts. Letting players know when they get out of line, and making sure that other players don’t have issues with antagging, trolling, etc.
I think that also like dungeonmasters, on the odd occasion that someone rolled a 10 when they needed an 11, they can slightly nudge some events in certain directions to create a better narrative for the round. They’re the cherries on top of the cake that is the SS14 game experience.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
Because I find leadership/mentorship roles very personally rewarding, I have always enjoyed engaging with admins before, and I would love to continue that trend of good admin experiences, rather than the stereotypical DarkRP/SS13 admin experience where the actions are often unfair and only act as a detriment to the overall experience.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I wish I was a faster typer, but I love roleplay and emphasize it in other hobbies and pursuits, e.g. running tabletop games.
I think that roleplay and the shared SS14 narrative that you and other players create is a unique experience that no other video game I’ve ever played really has.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
It’s the little things. One time on a LRP server, I was playing CE and got set to Pun-Pun speech for saying ‘round’ instead of ‘shift’ over the announcement console.
I personally thought it was hilarious and for days afterwards, people were commenting things like “Oh, hey it’s the monkey CE!”
Things like this or adding an antag objective based on RP they’ve had or creating an ERT if nukies are stalling all add to the fun that is the SS14 experience.
If not for the admin experience I’ve had, I’m not sure I’d still be playing the game.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Never, but I try to be as fair as possible and when confronted with differing opinions, seek either advice from those above me or invite my peers to a discussion.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I described this above, but the little things go very far in my book. It completes the experience that no purely procedurally structured round experience can really emulate. It’s like a TTRPG online.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
I probably wouldn’t do anything at all, but if the opportunity to do something very minor happens, who knows?
Admins need to be held to much higher standards than normal players, and usually no intervention is the best intervention.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
I don’t know the exact rules on heads mutinying, but I believe it’s supposed to come down to a vote. I would expect some punitive action against HoP and HoS unless given permission by another admin or flavoring a vote as a mutiny. It depends, but leaning towards punishment of some kind.
I don’t feel there is enough context in this to either condemn or exonerate Cap and QM, but I would have to see what happened to know.
The clown should normally be handled by security, but if it goes unanswered, a warning for first offense, if it’s a repeat offense look at the banning policy for further action.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
Talk to other admins to see if there’s a consensus on this issue. Indefinitely banning someone with no prior offense, especially if I’m sure it isn’t different from a previous ban, seems excessive to hand out without making absolutely sure it’s warranted.
