Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

  • Helping run events, and in-game/out-of-game rule enforcement.

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

  • Ban appeals.

Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning.

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

  • Providing the player base with fun events, making sure that people do not ruin the fun for others, and being welcoming.

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

  • I want to help run events and give people moments that are enjoyable, while also making sure that people are not being harassed.

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

  • I enjoy the roleplay status very much. And with Salamanders Growth in players, I want to make sure that the roleplay will still be enjoyable.

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

  • Running events and having interacting with the community.

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

  • I have had some moments with problematic players powergaming. I would find the person causing issues, and depending on the severity, act accordingly. Most times, I would warn them to stop the issues they are causing, and if they continue, kick or ban as needed.

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

  • Ive had many good experiences with the game and the admins. Events, small mishaps, and other things make the game very enjoyable and what keeps me coming back. Its the reason I want to help as an admin so that I can give others an enjoyable time.

The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

  • In that scenario, I wouldn’t’ve do anything as the traitors havent been chosen, and if I was to mess with a player that would be chosen, it cna either give them a large advantage or disadvantage. I would let the round play out, and maybe as the round goes on, I can set up a small area outside the main map that can be used to mess around it, avoiding negativly ruining the crews experience.

You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective.

  • In this senario, If the passanger and the clown where antags, lets say traitors, then I can see that this situation would be normal. The clown and passangers are antagonists, and the secoff does make the right call. Shooting the passenger to crit is a bit exessive, but depends on what happens next. Assuming the dectective brings them to medical, that its fine. If the detective doesnt do that, it can be seen as power gaming as the call was Arrest on site, not Kill on site. On the flip side, if the clown and the passanger wasnt an antag, then the passanger slipping the secoff can be seen as self-antagging. If this passanger has a history of doing this, I would warn them if they havent before. If they have been warned before, I would kick them. The dectective shooting the passenger in both assumptions isnt good, but it depends on the actions taken afterwords. Its the same as the passanger, if the dec has a history of using lethals on targets that are AOS, i would warn them and remind them to use non-lethals.

You and another admin have been adminning for around an hour. The rate of issues has been easily manageable due to having 2 admins. Neither of you have been talking in admin chat. You are using ahelp to warn a player for breaking a rule when the other admin joins the ahelp and confirms that it is against the rules, but that it’s fine in this case and they can ignore the rule for the rest of the round. You haven’t taken any other admin actions yet, such as applying a ban or writing a note.

  • This situation depends on context. It depends on the rule broken and why the other admin said that the rule can be ignored. I would see if I can consult with another admin if available. If not, I would ask the admin why are they giving the player a pass on the rule. If the reasoning is not well, I can remind the player that the rule is not meant to be broken and warn them. If it is a well reasoning, I would understand and allow it to be passed.

I misread the Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this? as i assumed I was an admin with that question.

I meant to say that I would try to resolve the situation peacefully and ahelped it.

I want to revise my application. After some time observing how the admins work, i realizes my previous application mainly focused on running events, which shouldn’t’ve be the main focus of being an admin. It is part of the job, but not the core of it.
