Randomperson212's Admin Application

In-game Username: [Randomperson212]

Discord username: [Patient]

Characters you play: [Ferdinand Aberneth]

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: [27 hours.]

Days you are available to admin on: [Everyday, unless something of utmost importance happens in my life.]

How old are you? [18]

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience?

[I began playing on SS13 Paradise server for a little while and then hopped on SS14, I didn’t like the aged SS13 version.]

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)?

[Unfortunately, I have nothing verifiable. But I am willing to learn and have fun moderating SS14.]

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers?

[No, however I have admin remarks logged.]

Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?

[Situational Events, such admin interventions would encourage roleplaying experience in a low-roleplay environment with focus on individual players, depending on the situation. For example, a passenger roleplays as a private investigator of some sort. I would encourage this behavior by developing a case, perhaps having a fax sent to Command informing them about the existence of such an investigator would foster them to utilize this person for their benefit. Hence, his gimmick will be fun and this person will most likely share his entertaining experience with others, therefore support others to do roleplaying gimmicks knowing admins might aid them in it. This may reduce self-antag behavior, people will prefer roleplaying before self-antaging.]

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?

[Thorough dealing with rule-breakers (replays, ban appeals.) This can get very annoying for me especially when such rule-breakers tend to stubbornly defend their behavior knowing they are in the wrong. I would prefer being part of the gameplay (as far as my competencies as admin can go) while having fun with other players. Combining administration and playing, simply put.]

Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning.

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?

[Personally, I think they are mainly here to deal with rule-breakers, since they are the main problem in any multiplayer games. Secondly, administrators are also the public relations for their community in a way, events bond administrators and players together creating interesting memories while maintaining good relations with each other. They are usually the first people players go to to ask questions regarding gameplay mechanics or rules and even development. Administrators behavior is the most noticeable and as such, relations are important.]

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?

[I would like to do a lot of those situational events focused on specific players rather than the whole server. While I do like server-wide events and will actively start them, like that one with the medieval truncheons where security bashed people to crit because of “under-funding”, that was pretty funny. I think a specific player’s experience will have a larger influence on people when shared. Another part would be moderation, while not my main interest, I would like to aid the admin team with Low-roleplay servers since the rule-breaking can get pretty abysmal and boring, from my experience.]

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?

[Starting with medium-roleplay servers, they are entertaining to play on and a great temporary relief from the chaos in a Low-roleplay environment. I mainly play on Lizard and am part of this chaos which can be fun and I do consider it the defining difference between roleplay environments which should be kept, but sometimes it gets annoying and gets me to hop on Salamander.]

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?

[Well-informed admins helping confused players. SS14 can get complex with game mechanics, keybinds and confusing meta-gaming rules, new players could get turned away by this if not informed otherwise and even spread a bad name about an in-coherent SS14 admin team. I especially felt this in SS13 when I was absolutely confused by the complexity.]

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so, what if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?

[Admins were generally kind and were of a good help in moderation and any questions I asked them, they were also fair in punishments. On the other hand, when it comes to the game, personally I found loud and rude players more annoying than those actually self-antagging. While self-antagging players usually get arrested, those heavily neurotic ones cause a lot of disturbance in departments and generally create a disgusting environment. I would moderate such behavior and perhaps even discourage it via IC crimes.]

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?

[Game admin event of some sort that I technically started. I was a syndicate passenger and bought the bribing kit, went on to bribe HOS to aid me in a coup and promised great wealth after. Admin surprisingly approved this, long story short, all hell broke loose with coups happening all over the bridge with us even accidentally couping our own people. HOS was being called names in OOC after game while I walked away with some of my objectives completed (can’t remember the greentext). I think the event was supposed to be a one coup with me on top and not devolve into chaos but well, the admin couldn’t interfere that much.]

The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.

[I would think these people went antag-sniping so I would just ignore them and make myself vanish if I could. In the case two ghosts are most likely rotting people, I might do something like make a big plushie for atmosian for example, not anything that would influence or change the round by outside working. So they are not bored in the meantime.]

You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective.

[The clown was committing a crime and was lawfully arrested for doing so. The passenger was self-antagging and was lawfully and within rules critted by the detective. I would give a warning for self-antagging behavior to the passenger for disrupting the security from doing their job without being an antag. The clown would be let free without any remark, clowns should be allowed to commit minor crimes, hence their job, a clown.]

You and another admin have been adminning for around an hour. The rate of issues has been easily manageable due to having 2 admins. Neither of you have been talking in admin chat. You are using ahelp to warn a player for breaking a rule when the other admin joins the ahelp and confirms that it is against the rules, but that it’s fine in this case and they can ignore the rule for the rest of the round. You haven’t taken any other admin actions yet, such as applying a ban or writing a note.

[I would further discuss the admin action with the other admin if such rule doesn’t need to be broken for the sake of fluidity of the round. If we can’t come to an agreement, I would discuss it with other admins in discord to come to an agreement. Otherwise, it would be fine by me.]

Thank you for applying. We’ve decided to not accept this application, but you’re free to apply again in the future.
