In-game Username: RiceTea
Discord username: roninrice
Characters you play: Tako Renguan, Yun Yammi, other minor characters.
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: I will try to admin 10 to 15 hours per week. With my current playtime per week, I will probably do more though.
Days you are available to admin on: I am available throughout the week during the evenings (5 - 12 PM EST). I may be less available during the mornings and afternoons of the week days.
How old are you? I am 19 years old.
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? On SS14, I have played around 20 hours of so on frontier but I am generally unknown in any other servers on SS14. On SS13, I have mostly played on MonkeyStation and the newly formed Nova Sector but most of this time is negligible as I quickly switched to SS14 in favor for its smoother gameplay and controls.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I do not have any Space Station 13 or 14 admin experience but I am an current director for a World War 2 ROBLOX game that features over 304k members. I help manage the community side of the game and make sure changes are implanted to the needs of the community.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I have not been banned on any SS13 or SS14 server. One notable thing though is I have been boinked once on a MonkeyStation server for SSDing while being an antag.
Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I am interested in responding to Ahelp requests and generally trying to interact with the community. I strive to improve everyones gameplay and make sure the roleplays that are occurring are following the rules and are enjoyable for everyone present.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? I am somewhat least interested in moderating the out-of-game channels such as the forums or discord if it is required in the job as I am more of a lurker in those sources of media compared to in-game. I would have to learn a lot more but I am always interested in doing so.
_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Game admins serve as the rule keepers of the roleplay making sure everyone is following the rules and most importantly having fun while doing so. They make sure problematic players are kept away from the roleplays of the crew and keep order whenever needed. They also help create interesting roleplays for the crew if gameplay is dull and generally help the community remain healthy and active. They are like the mediator between in-game arguments, helping calm down arguments and making sure those who deserve punishment, get that punishment.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I simply love the community of SS14, especially vulture and their players. I have had awesome conversations with different admins and players which helped me apply to become an administrator. I wish to help preserve the the community and help provide the service and fun that they are looking for as an admin.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
On LRP servers, especially vulture, I have seen far greater roleplay than I have seen on MRP. The current roleplay status on LRP servers is really peaking for me, there isn’t a lot of immersion breaks and people actually make an attempt to roleplay their character! I feel as if roleplaying currently is great, there is nothing wrong with it and I have no quarrels with it. I am less experienced with MRP though, but my time on that server has also been great, though I prefer vulture and Leviathan more.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I believe admin actions like admin events also play a bit part in the role of being an admin. They help create more activity and roleplay situations the community can enjoy. As admins, they should always prioritize the fun of the crew (in most cases) and admin events or admemes help create that excitement many people look for.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have not had a negative experience with an game admin so far, they have all been so kind and informative about what I should and should not do.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I once witnessed an admin deal with an ahelp that a good friend sent in. They were seriously self-antagging and power tripping in their HoP promoted position of security officer and it really ruined the fun for the rest of the players. The admins helped release my in-game friend from perma and dealt with the problematic player swiftly. I believe it was this moment that help sparked my interest in becoming an administrator for SS14 as I wish to also try to maintain the great community and atmosphere the WizardDen servers have. I also had an admin help our team of nukies out on doing “fishops” which ended in our loss but was still very fun to do on both sides of the conflict.
The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Scenarios intentionally leave out information so that you can describe how different details would affect your response. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how different assumptions would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Due to the fact it is the start of the round, I wouldn’t do anything crazy to start with, especially since I didn’t clarify that during the round intermission. Just to humor the ghosts, I would ask for their recommendations on a cool admeme and if it is something small like spawning some bread right in front of the captain or something similar, I would just do it. It is nice and funny to do goofy things like that once in awhile. I wouldn’t try and ruin the round for the traitors and turn it into an admin event though, as the round has barely started and I haven’t gotten permission from the crew to do so.
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
This is a tough case to swallow, but before I begin doing any admin actions, I will try to understand the roleplay of the situation or the basic context of their actions. For example, if the Captain was acting unruly or generally incompetent (Such as RDMing, breaking the rules and ruining the fun for the rest of the crew) , it is fair for Head of Security to try and escalate the issue into a coup to retain order in the station, especially since it is on an LRP server as well. Otherwise, I would message the HoS on why they are staging a coup against a perfectly normal Captain. Depending on their response and if the crew enjoy this or not, I would either warn the HoS for their actions and attempt to reach an understanding with them on why they randomly did a coup.
The Head of Personnel I believe isn’t in the wrong. They are simply just following the roleplay and doing what they think would make sense at the time. Of course, if they start to self-antag or break key rules, I would message them to understand their actions and follow up with the admin team for their opinion.
For the Captain and Quartermaster, if they aren’t over extending the round with the shuttle, I feel as if they are fine to hide in the shuttle and think of a plan to counter the coup and especially the clown! If they play it right, it could make a beautiful roleplay of them returning and either defeating the coup or being robusted by the clown. Seriously though, if the Captain has been incompetent, they are worthy to be messaged about their actions and be followed up with either a roleban or warning depending on the opinion of the admins. The Quartermaster is doing alright, they are simply just aiding the Captain (their superior) from danger.
Finally for the clown, since they are an non-antag, I would message them on the reasoning on why they have stolen the Captains saber. This could be an important objective for the antags of the server and just add unneeded difficulty for the actual antags of the server. To a extent, I would like to ask them to return the saber but I do know the clown has to do clown things. It really depends on the opinion of the admin team which I would consult throughout this situation. Due to the fact I would be a newer member to the admin team, I would probably follow the advice of the senior admin team more than my own opinions.
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
It really depends on the context and actions of the player. I would try and better consult the admins in question and ask why they believe we should escalate the issue to an appealable ban despite my knowledge / opinion differing. Personally, I would incite a warning for the player as they have no prior noted issues and wait for an opinion of an higher up or Head Admins to help guide my decision. If the overwhelming opinion is to ban the player, I may give them an temporary ban until I can be consulted on the issue at hand. In my previous communities, we have had issues on moderators abusing their permissions with them giving out unfair punishments and dividing the community from the moderating team. I wish not to repeat this in SS14 and try to give that player a chance to prove that their ahelp was simply a bad decision at the time. People can change and show good growth if we give them the time and space to do so.
