In-game Username: rilath
Discord username: rilath
Characters you play: Martin Skjei, Dargir Coalbelly, Tippo Felangus
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 10-15
Days you are available to admin on: Pretty available any day of the week.
How old are you? 28
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? Yes, RMC14 and brief experience on Fulpstation from SS13
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I was the moderation admin for Lord of the Craft, the largest minecraft roleplaying server for 3 months before voluntarily stepping down due to life. I lead a team of around 10 moderators. I basically filled the role that Chief_Engineer does as Head Admin. Here’s the post detailing my promotion to admin: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/214745-we-need-to-talk-about-rilath/
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? I had a 24 or 48 hour timeout from Lizard for metagrudging like a year or two ago.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? In-game events, in-game rule enforcement, out-of-game rule enforcement are the things that interest me the most. Lot’s of experience tending to these sorts of things back when I admin’d on minecraft
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? Ban appeals. When I was moderation admin on Lord of the Craft, I dealt with ban appeals nearly every day. Got very tiring after a while.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
They serve as both community engagement from devs and other leaders, as well as rule enforcement. They ensure that the games run smoothly and the community remains strong.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I’ve performed admin duties for other roleplay games/servers before and consider myself pretty successful. I like to help communities get stronger by correcting problem players/removing them if they refuse to improve. In addition, I like to spice things up by adding fun events/characters to interact with players. Overall, I just want to improve the game that I love so much in any way that I can, and I feel the best way I can do that is through administration.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
Personally, I feel MRP has kind of… Become mostly an LRP+ server. I’d like to see what I could do to improve upon it’s current level of RP and return it back to how it was when I first got whitelisted. Overall I think most things are good on the LRP servers, vulture seems to be improving every day thanks to the actions of a few members of the community, lizard is well. Lizard. I’d love to see about the addition of a WizDen HRP server, perhaps with a more stringent whitelist process as opposed to just playtime reqs and admin discretion.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I think interacting with players in general fosters a strong community. Whether this is just through shooting the shit on discord, doing events on server, or helping new players get their feet wet in the game. There’s tons of opportunities for admins to shine.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Any negative experience that I’ve had with an admin has usually been self inflicted and not do to any poor decisions on the admin’s part. Only thing I would do to prevent other players from having similar experiences would likely be warnings and/or communicating with the player to explain why their actions aren’t tolerated on wizden servers as opposed to just instantly punishing them. (depending on severity of their actions of course.)
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Pretty much every interaction with LordEclipse has been nothing but great. They’re active in game chat when online, they create fun events, and they’re strict but fair with the rules. Fantastic game admin and could see them being head admin some day.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Well, likely depending on the server I might “do something funny.” I’m not sure what the limitations or possibilities are, but I’ve always thought it’d be funny or cool to have a wizards vs ninjas round, so if that was something I could do feasibly then I would do it.
Prior to doing anything, however, I’d hold a server vote, asking if everyone on the server wants “something funny” or not and then go from there. Obviously if no one wants to experience it then I wouldn’t. If I was on MRP, I likely wouldn’t even do anything apart from telling the three players “no,” and then moving on.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
To start off with, I would speak with the clown, ask them what they were doing stealing captain’s items as a non-antag. Depending on their answer I may let them off with a warning to not do it again, or it may raise to a full temp ban.
After dealing with the clown, I’d speak with HOS and HOP and try to figure out why exactly they are pursuing a coup against the captain. Imagining it’s a good reason, say cap is executing prisoners wrongfully/being general shit captain, I’d approve the coup and allow it to continue but I likely wouldn’t FORCE the captain to come back to station to answer for their crimes, instead allowing it to play out in RP. If, however, the HOS and the HOP were the ones being shitters and attempting to mutiny without any good reason I’d explain to them both why their actions are not allowed and then give them (temporary) role bans.
QM would have no punishment or even be spoken to, likely, as they seem to be a bystander in all of this.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
If I’d previously been given instruction that this type of behavior results in a tempban, and the noted player has no prior issues then I would give the player a temporary ban and ignore the suggestion of the other admin to give them an indefinite ban. I’d also try to figure out why the other admin suggested an indefinite ban on this player, perhaps they have some sort of grudge against the player which, ideally, should not have any effect on what punishment a player receives.
After a headmin does become available, I would check in with them, confirm that the punishment I gave was correct and also let them know about what the other admin had suggested.
