Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
As is with many other admins of other multiplayer games, they serve to enforce rules and limits so the game is fair and fun for everyone, usually by ahelping and banning. However in SS14, admins also have the power to change the round and do many things and I believe admins can also serve to use said power to fix in-game issues or create a situation that makes the game more fun for the players
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I really like SS14 and I would like to work to make it a more fun, fair and welcoming game for new and old players alike. I would also like to make a more admin presence in times where I usually play (since I am from a different timezone, the times i usually play don’t have many admins)
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I think it is severely lacking, even in Salamander, but the problem is way worse on LRP servers
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
helping players with game mechanics and clarifying rules in ahelp, resolving in-game issues (bugs or mapping issues), managing some fun admeme to improve the round
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
very few, and all of them were very minor. but to avoid it from happening to other players if I was the admin, I would try to analise context and make questions before acting
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Yes, lots, there was a time where the hotplate wasn’t working (bug) but an admin taught me how to heat mixtures without it, I had an admin clarify a rule for me when I broke it, more than once an admin also helped me when I was lone op, an Admin also refunded the thief toolkit to me cause at the time, the chameleon kit wasn’t working, but I also witnessed admin helping other players when I was observing, like once when a person with the ninja role had to go leave so the admin spawned another ninja role so someone else could take it.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Although admemes can be really fun, they can also negatively impact the experience for some players, so I believe they should be done lightly and only every so often (major admemes should be always putted up to a vote before the round)
In this situation I would consider the last time me or another admin did admemes, given that has been a while, I would think of something funny (something minor that doesn’t spoils the fun for the traitors) and tell them to wait or observe my idea, however, if I wasn’t in the mood for admemes, or didn’t have any ideas at the moment, or it been too little time since the last admeme, I would just ignore said players and continue to do my work normally, if they started spamming in ahelp, I would issue a warning and following a ban if said warning was ignored
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
CLOWN: is very clear that what they are doing is self-antag, I would check for previous issues regarding the clown, if there wasn’t I would give them a chance by ahelping and asking em to return the saber and to explain themselves (it would be unlikely that any explanation would make me let them keep the saber), otherwise I would use admemes to give the saber back to cap, and then ban them when the round was over
QUARTERMASTER: unless delaying the round by staying with captain in the shuttle for very long, I wouldn’t ahelp them, since aiding the captain is proper command role behavior
HEAD OF SECURITY: I would ahelp them and ask them to explain the situation and the reasons for the coup
- good reasons were given (maybe captain was abusing their powers, or neglecting their responsibilities), then I would check how the coup was being conducted, if HOS went directly to getting guns, I would ask them to first talk with the other heads and talk with captain. In this situation I let the coup and game continue its course and maybe ahelp the captain if they were acting specially unproperly for a captain (maybe they would get a role ban, depending on their offenses and the way the coup was dealt by cap)
- no good reasons, or no reason was given, I would ask HOS to stop the coup and would add a remark, if they didn’t, or already taken actions against the captain, I would use admemes to make them wanted, and maybe get some internal affair agents to the station to arrest them, demote them and place them in permanent confinement (for high treason 5-07), I would then issue a role ban (command and security) after the round was over
HEAD OF PERSONEL: very similar to what I would ask and do with HOS
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
Although I believe first offenses shouldn’t be dealt with bans, I also know some offenses are very heavy and should be dealt harshly (I will assume is the case in this scenario) I would follow the directive that the admin told me previously and issue a temporary ban (the time being something I think is fair given the offense, but also long enough for me to get in touch with other admins to discuss the situation) I would then talk with the after mentioned admin about the offense, maybe get the opinion of other admins or headmins, in any case, the ban can be turned into a indefinitely ban later on
