In-game Username: ScarKy0
Discord username: ScarKy0
Characters you play: Kristopher Laborde
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 5-10
Days you are available to admin on: I should be fine both weekends and week days, but it may vary because I’m still studying.
How old are you? 19
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? I only ever played on wizden servers with the occassional different server to read the rules or check any changes made there.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No prior experience.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No prior bans or role bans.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? I’d be very happy to be able to work with things like events or enrich the player experience with some things I don’t see used often(Praying and similiar mechanics). Obviously enforcing the rules in-game is important and I’d be happy to assist with things such as that as well.
Keeping order or making sure the round continues in case there is stalling happening or both sides are not able to progress for a reason.
If there is place for admins to teach new players I’d be very happy with that too, because the game is complex introduction to the basic mechanics is always of great help.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? I’m not very familiar with admin tools (but I assume that would be explained If I get accepted) and I find replays very annoying to use. I would have no issue with checking replays and logs but they don’t seem to be in a state where It’s something I’d enjoy.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
I believe game admins are supposed to obviously deal with rule breaks; dealing with raiders, ensuring nobody makes the game unfun for others and making sure to keep the player experience as fun as possible.
Maybe an occassional admeme that could showcase a new feature or to give memorable experiences to players (like when spawning in wizard antags, rimworld-like rounds and similiar).
While I didn’t see how that stuff goes, as obviously as a player I cannot see ghosts, I believe game admins outside of rule related stuff generally try to ensure the round continues smoothly and all players have fun.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I was wondering about it for a little while but ultimately I was convinced to give it a shot. I’ve been playing the game for a longer while now and I’ve been having an amazing time, even starting to contribute to it as of recently.
I was thinking I could sign up to help with the player experience more than with just my poor programming skills.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
While I believe some roleplay rules are strict, I think the roleplay on servers is generally good and fun, my favourite servers being LRP.
As to things I’d consider strict it mostly goes down to things like small steps out of your role or the fact you can’t grief at the end of the round in MRP(Which makes no sense to me, the round is over anyways). But generally I’ve never had an issue with those myself, just some smaller things I don’t quite enjoy or understand.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
While getting rid of players is obviously important I believe what is the most impactful thing is ensuring the round progresses normally without any hiccups. For example when during a NukeOps round both sides are so hurt none of them can progress, or if the nuke code was lost, nukie shuttle kidnapped by players.
Generally things that make sure the game continues and ends and isn’t in a state where neither side has fun anymore.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Personally I never had any negative experiences with any admins.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
My most positive experiences with admins go down to the fact that usually when I use ahelp for questions regarding things they get answered. Like for clarification on rules or explaining some admeme situations and such. A while ago I was even taught how to submit a bug report over github by an admin which generally kickstarted me into using github more and starting to contribute to the game.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Doing anything at the start of the round is generally a bad idea because the events of the round had no chance to even start at that point. I would tell the spectators that I won’t interfere unless the round actually starts going in a totally wrong direction.
However if things stalled out and I was asked to do something to keep the round going I would interfere.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
As the captain is currently unreachable to the HoS and HoP I would take care of the clown first, who is self-antagging. As this is LRP, unless they’re actively causing chaos with the saber, I would simply keep an eye out as this is something security could be able to deal with. If things go bad I would inform the clown and take away the saber if neccessary.
Next I would inform HoS and HoP that this behaviour is not something a command member should do, unless the captain was actively trying to ruin the game for others and had to be replaced by a different command member. If HoS and HoP listen I would inform the captain it is safe to return to the station, if they do not listen I would take away their weapons and ultiamtely remove them from this round if needed, though I think removing a command member from the round is not something that should be done if it can be helped.
Alternatively a death squad would be cool if the command is just a mess in general.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would ask the other admin for their reasoning and try to talk out the situation with them, though
considering the lack of a head admin to ask for clarification in this situation I would simply follow what I was told to do prior. I would inform the player of things that happened and tempban them, later bringing up the situation to a headadmin(when available) to make sure my action was correct and ask for clarification on if the other admin was right or wrong.
