Ban reason: "Excessive damage + evading ahelp : as a paradox clone, cut power to the entire station, left before could be ahelped"
Length of ban: Indefinite
Ban Issue:
What I was banned for is not against the rules

Events leading to the ban

I took a paradox ghost role and spawned as an atmos tech. I then stole a kitchen knife and an inspector which was on the ground in security. My target was sitting in a crowded bar, having a long conversation and RPing. I waited for a long time for them to move, but they then stuck to crowded halls. I shot them outside of engi, but was immediately swarmed by 4 crewmembers (passengers and a paramedic, no sec) who attempted to crit me with toolboxes. I escaped into maints.

Realizing that I needed better conditions to successfully kill my target without anyone interfering, I waited a while for my target to be revived, then unwrenched all of the engineering SMES to cause a stationwide blackout. I figured this would either lure my target to engineering, or provide more chaos and darkness which would aid my kill objective.

I tailed my target in the shadows for a bit, but a detective saw me and killed me.

Reason the ban should be removed

I have three main points:

Evading a-help:
I did not intend to evade an ahelp. I was not bwoinked after unwrenching the SMES or the 5-10 minute duration after I had done so. After I died, I wasn’t interested in spectating and I wasn’t aware an admin was online, so I disconnected. Had an admin ahelped me during the time I was playing, I would have responded politely with the following points:

Excessive damage, part 1:
Unwrenching the SMES banks is not excessive damage. Yes, I am aware that it causes a major disruption to the entire station, however I did not blow them up, dismantle them, or permanently affect power production in anyway. This would have been easily fixed by a single person with a wrench, and there was a well-staffed engineering department with a CE, as well as an AI. Both the CE and AI should be experienced enough to identify and address something as simple as disconnected SMES banks within a short time. The intent here was to create a short blackout to lure my target and create chaos to make it easier to kill them, and ideally get the emergency shuttle called. If anyone had even attempted to fix power before ahelping and reporting me, I would not have stopped them.

Excessive damage, part 2:
From roleplay rules 2.9:

Unless told otherwise, antags should avoid causing disruption to the station or other players that could potentially cause entire departments to stop functioning, either permanently or for a significant portion of the round. Major disruptive actions are acceptable to get evac called if the objectives require that the antagonist escapes to Centcomm, this does not include singuloose/tesloose.

As stated before, I didn’t expect the engineering department to be unable to diagnose and repair the power problem. It is an easy fix, and easily identifiable (All places losing power, power production not damaged = unwrenched SMES). I didn’t expect it to disrupt “a significant portion of the round.”

Furthermore, I did have the objective to “resume my previous life” and escape to Centcomm alive as a paradox clone. As major disruptive actions are acceptable to get evac called, and unwrenching the SMES is a major disruptive action, I don’t believe that I broke the rules here.

Final notes:
I am an experienced player, and I fully acknowledge from time to time that I make mistakes. I understand that the actions I took in that round probably ruined it for a lot of people, and I apologize for that. I’m not sure who ahelped me, or why, I’m not sure which admin was online, but there was a lot of missing context that led to this ban and I hope I’ve provided it.

To be clear, I would not have unwrenched the SMES if I had not been validhunted by passengers with toolboxes.

RP rules 2.13

Stick to your role: Typically against the rules: As a passenger, fighting or preparing to defend someone else from someone who has been trying to kill a random crewmember.

They could have simply run away and reported my name and crime to security. Instead, they chose to fight me and prevent me from achieving my objective. I did not attack them, they attacked me and I fought them in self defense.

And the CE and AI failing to diagnose and repair a simple power problem:
RP Rules 2.14

Command roles are not learning roles. Members of command must be competent.

Conclusion:
The ban should be at the very least reduced to non-permanent as, from my understanding, I did not break any rules.

I’ve reviewed this and am going to overturn the ban. Nothing that seemed to occur during the shift was out of line wit what an antagonist is permitted to do.
