Should so many things be locked behind science?

Timers, Voice Activated stuffs, and chemical bomb cartridges in particular. They are always locked behind science and science never seems to ever use them or waste their materials on printing them. I suggest making them either things like decently rare maints loot similar to modular receivers, Adding them into some kind of syndicate bundle avaliable to purchase or even putting a small amount into the tools vendor like the remote signaller. It being locked behind science in every scenario always makes certain contraptions and syndicate strategies almost impossible to do despite their incredibly creative premise’s. Thoughts?

I personally think the station should have chances to try items in limited numbers until science makes more.

Getting more laser rifles, atmos holofans and heaters/freezers requires sci or cargo, but existing stock familiarises the crew for them to decide to order/make more.

Which points to a chicken-and-egg problem where if they don’t have the items to learn off of, why would they ever use them?

Agreed, having come from a server without it (goonstation) I find everyones reliance on science incredibly tedious, as a borg main especially waiting all shift on someone else who may or may not be incompetent and doesnt care to choose the things they dont benefit from.

It just seems like a lazy way to add strong things without facing the full consequence.

This to me sounds kinda like a player problem. science could absolutely research them for the rest of the station, but don’t as they have no personal use for them.
This also has the problem of people just not going up to science for things that much(this is probably less of a problem though)
