On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: Technically anytime I’m not asleep, since I do not work and am not in school at the moment. Might change at some point? Though I wouldn’t admin all day everyday. That’s a death sentence.
Days you are available to admin on: Same as above.
Are you at least 18 years old? Yep.
How long have you been playing SS13 or SS14? I’ve been playing ss13 for about two years, and ss14 a year now.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? No, but I’ve observed countless rounds following admins if that even counts as anything.
Have you been banned from our game servers or SS13 servers before? An erroneous ban and a suspicion of metacomms ban which I appealed about 5 months ago.
_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Deal with rulebreakers according to the rules and the banning policies, answer questions about the game/rules, issue warnings when needed. Respond to ahelps.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the server?
Which server we are talking about matters a lot here. Personally, I believe Lizard has sunk to a state of almost NRP, or incredibly low-effort LRP. I’ve stayed away from that specific server because of that, as I’m not a fan of seeing metagame in chat all the time (which I’ve been ahelping as of recently), and moved to Salamander for a while, which to me feels more like HRP than MRP. Not a fan of that either, as I’m not looking for an extra serious roleplay experience (I’m also not talented at it). I’ve only played one round of Miros when Lizard was down, and from what I recall, was just a chaotic experience. After Leviathan’s introduction, I felt like I had found a server that actually caters to what I want, a ‘true’ LRP experience, or maybe even MRP. I’ve seen plenty of people gladly RP on there and I’ve been excited to see it grow.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I’ve noticed we don’t usually have that many admins online, and I’ve seen a lot of admins answer ‘lack of admins’ to a bunch of issues raised in the discord. I’ve also noticed there often are no admins online on leviathan. Though, the main reason I want to become an administrator, is because I see a lot of rulebreakers, and I’ve been ahelping to the best of my ability/availability whenever I do spot anything. It feels like there aren’t enough people available to deal with these and was hoping I could maybe alleviate the workload our current admins deal with.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Personally I believe warning players when displaying problematic yet not bannable behavior can sway the warned user towards acting more respectfully/within the rules of the server. I’ve seen people testify they were warned while doing something wrong and corrected their behavior during play. I’ve also had this happen to me. While not a formal warning, I’ve had an admin subtle message me not to do something that I at the time thought was funny, but was actually just me being a shitter. Just a little respectful slap on the wrist. Now, I understand these don’t work on everyone, but I am positive this can affect players who are serious about the game while being a little on the rules edge in a good way.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Something that’s really been irking me recently is players making fun of others for roleplaying, or acting NRP. Also players metagaming in chat. I understand the more populated servers are LRP, but that doesn’t mean people should be driven away from roleplaying because some individuals refuse to roleplay or nag them about it. I usually ahelp the metagaming, which I assume warrant warnings. I’ve also been ahelping text speak whenever I can or remember, but I’ve not been ahelping those who ‘make fun’ of others for what I stated earlier. An example of this is people telling me to stop roleplaying as Chance… For apparently no reason? Just to be annoying. I don’t even think it’s a rule break, but it’s really disheartening to hear someone tell you to stop roleplaying because it’s weird. I have no idea how I would deal with this issue, as I’m not entirely familiar with policies.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I’ve had too many to recount, but honestly my favorite thing is spending time with ghost gang. It’s just fun talking to peeps while watching cadets self-antag and whatnot.
_ The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions. _
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. A chaplain prays to you “Give me a task my lord”.
I’m not super keen on interfering in rounds, so I would most likely ignore it, and at most spawn a mundane item which they’d be able to interpret as they see fit, so long as it doesn’t turn into some kind of cult, which I’d deal with according to the rules if needed.
You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals.
It really depends on the antag status of said passenger. I don’t believe there’s a need to interfere with the clown’s actions unless it’s very clearly harassment beyond just nagging security, but I’d have to talk with an admin on how to proceed with the passenger, because without guidance, I would probably just issue a warning for self-antagging if they ended up not being an antag, since I’m not super acquainted with providing sanctions.
You log in to handle an ahelp that came in while nobody was online about “self-antag” activity. The player being reported as self-antagging was being a problem and could be considered acting outside of the rules, but they are no longer online and cannot be contacted about their behavior. While outside of the rules, the infractions are minor and would not normally result in more than a warning in most cases.
I’d first make sure they aren’t a repeat offender, then I’d either send em a message note about why what they did was wrong/bad so they can view it the next time they log on, or deal appropriately with them according to their previous bans/notes.
