Space Law and MRP being "dumbed down" due to the rewrite

I want to first note that there isn’t a single bit of malice or anger intended towards the changes, or anyone involved in them, and I appreciate that the rules rewrite comes long overdue. It is refreshing to have a comprehensive list of the rules in one or two clear places.

Most of my feedback isn’t so much to do with the actual server/game rules, but more of the implementation of Space Law. I personally feel that a lot of changes to Space Law, alongside the almost complete removal of SOP and Alert Procedure, have “dumbed down” the law and can hinder the level of roleplay and standards for security and command. I pretty much exclusively play on Mander, so my perspective could be skewed, but these are some of the issues:

Space Law was long overdue a rewrite, however the way it is implemented (universally across all wizden servers, yet there are different LRP and MRP servers) seems to be aimed to cater towards standardising LRP and making thing simpler to understand, at a potential cost of making MRP too LRP friendly.

With SOP being gone, as someone has already mentioned in another thread, things like foreign vessel rights and succession lines simply cease to exist. Sure, there are “accepted practices”, and things that are down to the discretion of the captain, but by not having any guidelines it paves the way for inconsistency in command.

For standard executions (Also EE was removed) prisoners no longer have a right to a trial under the law. And yeah, there may be a lot of people who hate CourtRP, and it has its issues, but I think that there are better discussions to have about how it can be improved and made unique rather than just removing it. It feels like that line removal doesn’t fit in with the entire concept of space law. (You want a trial to debate your round removal sentence? That’s too bad you don’t have any rights) This comes back to my issue of higher roleplay standards in MRP being neglected by trying to have laws exist in both a LRP and MRP state.

Aside from some minor rules Amendments and the IC roleplay levels of players, from a legal standpoint MRP has no differences whatsoever with LRP. With even less guidelines, especially for command roles, I think that it makes incompetence easier. Many command players (who already on MRP show a concerning amount of LRP behaviour), simply have even less responsibilities. It might not be an issue for the CMO for example, or the RD, but especially HoS and Cap should have extra rules/procedure.

Saying command should act as command and uphold standards as one thing, but you have directly removed a bunch of these, making it harder to encourage higher levels of roleplay and for players to follow these standards.

I totally agree with cleaning up and removing many of the unnecessary extra pages of info players have to go through, but I also feel that some of this simplicity ends up in taking away from roleplay and the higher expectations that command and security players in particular should be held to.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and being responsive and open to feedback.

I mean, this is a direct consequence of them not wanting to have different rules for MRP and LRP. LRP got a bunch of MRP rules, some of them that make sense and are good for the state of LRP because they provide some clarity to common points of contention within LRP (Space Law) and some of them that aren’t because without the higher level of RP, there isn’t enough gameplay within certain roles to sustain them (Stay in your own lane rules that make the minor tiding that passenger gameplay consists of basically ban-worthy).

MRP benefits from a more structured environment and LRP benefits from a less structured one. It was always a design mistake to try to make rules that fit both.

I feel as if alot of important procedures and rules got cut for no particular reason, especially since lots of clarifications have been answered in “Act in good faith” which people obviously wont follow. Powergaming as a rule is now only enforced on security and command which means any civ can carry a shiv on them at all times because they feel like it and give unfair advantages to themselves for whatever scenario they might encounter. I think prisoners should absolutely still have rights to trial if they are going to be executed (your being round removed by someone you should be protected by, even if your an antag). it feels as if rules just became more lenient in a way that makes people who follow rules to the letter inflict annoyance on anyone they interact with, including people who always set the maximum sentences, powergame and people who play the game “not in good faith” that technically isnt against the rules.
TLDR:
-Powergaming should be against the rules, command/security or not
-Prisoners deserve rights again
-People will stick to the letter of the law and tiptoe the line of breaking spacelaw/rules even if advised to give their own judgements

Powergaming is against the rules for everyone, it was just folded into stay in your own lane rules. But this also means that a tider with insuls and a toolbelt is “powergaming” because they possess things outside of their job duties (Which for a passenger, is nothing). They can get a ban for this if an admin is feeling uncharitable.
