Sphiral's Admin Application

In-game Username:  [Sphiral]
Discord username:  [Sphiral]
Characters you play:  [The Gem family. Normally Nova Gem. Other characters consist of a rare mineral (ex. Ruby), followed by Gem.]

On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week:  [20-25+]

Days you are available to admin on:  [Pretty much 24/7 unless asleep. Less likely to be on during weekends, but can be there in an emergency.]

How old are you?  [18]

Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience?  [No.]

Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? [Within other communities/games, yes. I have been an admin for multiple discords, minecraft events, a couple streamers, and various one offs with friends groups. Unfortunately nothing verifiable.]

Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers?  [No.]

Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.

What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?  [in/out-of-game rule enforcement, various bugged round fixings, and of course, events.]

What are you least interested in doing as an admin?  [I would say from 1-10 of liked tasks, everything would be a 6+, with the exception of appeals, being a 5.]

_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _

What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
[Keeping things running if anything breaks, keeping troublemakers in line, and allowing for a bit more variation in rounds.]

Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
[I wish to help this community grow and flourish, so that others may enjoy it like I have.]

How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
[MRP: Decent, however some things need to be better clarified and generally spread out. I feel most of the inconsistencies would be solved with time, as more people contribute and get around to writing said info.
LRP: Absolute Chaos. I haven’t gone back to LRP since I touched MRP, due to the insane amount of shittery that occurs, along with the lack of RP from most people. It feels more like a deathmatch with roles most rounds. ]

Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
[General events and shown admin activity.]

Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
[Nothing more than a “I messed up and died as antag :(” ]

Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
[Everything! I’ve loved this game from about 10 hours in, and still do 570 hours later (according to steam). Everything from actually playing each role, or chilling with Ghost Gang/Admins and chatting.]

The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.

It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
[Depending on my mood/round status (not chaos), I would either ignore them, try to chat with them if I have time, or at most do something small like entertain them with chemistry magic in the testing zone.]

You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. Having heard an AOS radio callout, the detective enters maintenance near disposals and shoots the passenger to crit. There are four players in this scenario, the clown, the passenger, the secoff, and the detective.

[The clown would generally be considered as just doing their clown thing. However, depending on what the clown was writing, I would either ignore, or take action. (Such as if the writing was worse than “shitsec”, a slur, or various other offensive things.

The SecOff would just be considered unrobust at that point and I would let other officers/experience teach them.

The Passenger would grab more attention. If they were an antag, nothing wrong there; They’re just doing they’re job. If the clown was also an antag, then I would know it’s not just pure shenaniganry on the passengers part. However, if they weren’t an antag, they would be given a warning, note, and possible short ban (after consulting the elder gods.) Along with being watched closer, for additional trouble.

The Detective would first get a check on their general and sec playtime, then I would check the alert level. If lethals are authorized, I would be more lenient with the det, but probably still continue my process. If they were on the newer side of players, I would be even more so lenient and try to let them know to try to have a non-lethal option as first response attempts. If they were an experienced player, I would talk to them with ahelp, give them a note, and ask the elder gods if there should be any more punishments. I would also continue to watch them for the remainder of the round for any additional misconduct.]

You and another admin have been adminning for around an hour. The rate of issues has been easily manageable due to having 2 admins. Neither of you have been talking in admin chat. You are using ahelp to warn a player for breaking a rule when the other admin joins the ahelp and confirms that it is against the rules, but that it’s fine in this case and they can ignore the rule for the rest of the round. You haven’t taken any other admin actions yet, such as applying a ban or writing a note.
[I would let it be, and ask the fellow admin why it was allowed, and various other questions regarding the rule, so that I may know for next time. I would also ask other admins if it was right to allow, and reread the rules and similar writings.]
