This is a recreation of the original post as the original project has become much more broad in scope.
The name of the original tool was SS14ChemAssist.
It is now renamed to SS14RecipeAssist.
This tool helps people working in Chem, Botany, Atmos/Engineering, and Bartenders. It also helps out antags and general players!
The newest additions to the tool not only include the name change, but the crafting recipe and drinks tab. A future update may also include Linux support. This was planned for the current update but I need to set up the engine some more to make that work.
You can check out the tool here:
The tool is built to help new and experienced players alike.
Be aware that since I did not pay windows to sign the tool it will warn you about an unknown publisher. If the project opens up in fullscreen and you want to move it around, hit F11.
Tried setting up a new update to add linux support but I came across an issue with the uproject file being missing or summin weird.
Maybe I try again or I just focus on maybe adding more tips and tricks.
New update. Spelling mistakes and some work on adding movable panels to add tons more info on screen. Drinks tab will be seeing this new change first but for now it’s strictly behind the scenes.
no linux build
I thought this would be made in smth like godot. but I cnt even guess what the engine is used to write this (watch it is a simple winforms and I am stupid)
I tried making a linux build multiple times. Maybe I can try getting it working again. It’s made in Unreal Engine and it does not like letting me get the linux version up and running.
I’m curious - why make it in Unreal Engine? I could see it being feasible in something like Twine, thought I’m not sure if that’s Linux compatible either.
I used Unreal Engine since it’s the software I’ve been using a lot and I wanted to try something like this out on the software. Fun fact, I may have gotten it working, it’s just terrible testing it since I’m on a windows system and my way of testing is using WSL. I’ve gotten pretty far, but testing is very difficult. I have managed to make Linux runnable files though.
UE is also very easy to work in as well as very inclusive in terms of what software can run the files. It took a while but I managed to get the Linux packager working and it can package properly. Apparently some files are wonky but it isn’t too bad to fix those issues.
I’m gonna update the project once the Itch.io website is fixed. Currently has a few visual issues that makes me uncomfortable changing values. I think right now it works mostly alright but I am going to post an experimental Linux branch. Right now I’m getting issues that boil down to the way I’m trying to run it and not issues with the file itself so it should be working.
Look out for an update very soon once the site fixes its visual issues. The Linux version will most likely have a few issues, or it might just work perfectly and everything will be amazing. Nonetheless, I will continue to work on the tool to make sure as many people can use it as possible.
Once I get this working I can get back to work on adding the next major update which I think will be very helpful. It may take a while to get it working as I might have to remake everything, but due to the way UE works it may not take as long as it would in other engines. The majority of the work will be in the drinks, crafting, and maybe botany sections as they may receive a full rework if need be.
