Suit storage was dumbed down and implemented in a way that contributed nothing towards the fun or balance of the game and for no reason outside of “You shouldn’t be able to” or “It was like this in 13” were stated. Many people disliked this change as it seemed anti-fun. Emogarbage defended it saying that its correcting an error with how suit storage was made in 14 compared to 13 despite the fact that its just as incorrect as it was before the change but worse since 13 had allowed winter coats to wear oxygen tanks as it was brought up at the very least. many other played have brought up that it at the very least makes logical sense for you to be able to carry almost any weapon on your back too, the PR has since been merged and without discussion. This post is to find if there were any other possible reasons why it was merged or PR’d in the first place and to wonder if it bothers anyone else as much as it does me and if anyone would even want to revert it.
doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, like literally every controversial change people care about it for like a week and then get used to it (gridinv etc)
I mean, the very existence of this feedback thread shows that people still care and are not going to get used to it like they did with gridinv. Plus, gridinv could be argued as adding to the game, while the suit storage changes did nothing but remove a feature for no good reason.
No, this change still very much sucks. This isn’t like Gridinventory at all, and I wish people would stop making that comparison to justify every bad change. Gridinventory added something to the game, and not even necessarily at the cost of quality of life (There are benefits to gridinventory like being able to very easily visually ascertain what items you have). This just took away quality of life with no benefit.
Honestly having suit storage back would be a huge QoL boon. Everyone would benefit from this, from the tider with a spear on their back to the QM with a proto kinetic accelerator.
I think the best fix here is what people are saying ss13 already does which is have the ITEM define if it can use suit storage, and not the outerwear.
Think of it as adding a sling to items like spears, guns, and air tanks. Maybe even add a new craftable sling itself which can be attached to certain items which allows them to use suit storage.
Maybe security’s starting guns come with slings, air canisters come with slings, but makeshift weapons, fabricated weapons, cargo-ordered objects, would have to have their slings attached if you wanted to use them for suit storage?
idk could be overcomplicating, if that much detail isn’t desired I think the best solution is still just asking the item if it can be stored in the suit slot, not asking the suit if it has a storage slot
