I want to ask, what was the reason the implanter change was added? In the discord server, I see nothing but hate for it. it seems like a terrible nerf for sec, all because someone didn’t want to wear gloves while hiding their implanter.
I’m posting this here because I want to know how the forum feels. Perhaps it’s different.
With the old implanter system, the only reason not to implant check every criminal was the metashield. It was both clunky rules-wise and created situations where Sec had to awkwardly dance around things because they didn’t have 100% confirmed proof.
on one hand mechnically enforcing metashield is nice.
on the other this just sucks for sec. there is NO way to know what implanter someone used meaning that you gotta basically kill a few secoffs to de-implant one person.
The main issue is that some implants have now become undetectable or became a 50/50 which is not worth risking. Meaning some implants are as free of downsides as they get.
But i imagine they are working on addressing that.
You do realise that with implantation removal with reasonable proof of an implant, a sentence can be delayed or extended until the implantation removal is complete.
So you can give the syndie with their prints on the implant a little choice. Either they remove the implant themselves, or they stay in the brig… PERMANENTLY.
So long as you keep that choice open there is no violation of space law for keeping them in the brig for as long as required.

That’s definitive proof that they have an implant, but without knowing which implant it is, are they just supposed to shrug and let them leave with dangerous Syndicate tech in their body? Gamble their officers’ health on guessing what it is?
That is the current design problem that the rework failed to address.
atm there is a couple that you can guess (like the EMP, scrambler or freedom implant if you see them in use)
But others like the storage and the uplink implant, which has identical effect to spectators, is undetectable short of gambling a 50/50 and 25 seconds per attempt.
As always, consent is the magic word here. If you can RP out a deal to get them to tell you which implant it is, boom! If you can get someone else to consent to assist security, (AFAIK, IANAA) HoS can authorize them to assist (maybe after inducting them as Security Cadet if Sec is the one that must make the check) and let them take the hit. A brigmed can perform it. There are a plethora of ways it might be handled. And if that ends up sucking, that’s the mechanic’s fault and we can reexamine it. I would totally volunteer as Bartender or Medical Doctor if offered. And if this is against the spirit of the mechanic, then sorry, I’ll find another way around it. Optimizers gonna optimize ;p.
