Vaughn is a bitter, cynical old man who never achieved his dreams, and has resigned himself to taking whatever jobs Nanotrasen gives him to get by. Space station life does not suit him, and he’s taken to self-medicating with whatever substances he can get his hands on to deal with the stress of it all. Despite his angst, he is genuinely competent at most of the work he’s assigned.
