On one hand, yes to all the above.
On the other I’ll just share a couple rounds I participated in where thief just repeatedly made the round into a cryo worthy one.
Normally the thief fun, after taking their objectives, is steal everyone’s shoes (which still nobody has said a word as to how that’s okay mechanically. Even regular sneakers, much less magboots latched onto your feet underneath a hardsuit. That’s half my complaint, the absurdity of that. Just let the thief steal your lungs while you’re at it, maints.) One of my rounds this was the main thing, when the thief kept stealing everyone’s shoes (including job restricted ones) and throwing them into chem. Sec, instead of retrieving or allowing anyone to retrieve their shoes, prioritized arresting people who were demanding their shoes back from the chemist who openly refused. They weren’t vendor shoes you can replace and do run out, they are round start things like golashes. Sec just said they were too busy to deal with the thief.
Recently, I again had large bulky items snatched off me while I watched, and the thief immediately fled. Because of how run speed works the thief can just escape no problem and you never get your non replaceable shit back.
Really, as I’ve said, the biggest complaint with thief conceptually is hardly what they do or how, it’s almost entirely the extremity of what they can do. Stealing your clothes all at once and fleeing.
If they at least couldn’t snatch large items off you that would be a lot easier to swallow. PDA, headset, even a hat, that works. Shoes off your feet, backpack, that’s all a bit much.
I like one of the changes starlight made to stripping in general. they made it so you can only strip items items if you have one hand empty. so you cant just click every slot on a person and drop all their stuff to the floor. alongside this they also added a speed boff to stripping cuffed targets.
This is a cool change for sec. Altho i am not a fan of having to deal with putting away every single piece of clothing during an arrest.
If there was a hotkey to “strip to floor” this would not be an issue. But atm that would be a LOT of work since afaik UI does not accept key modifiers when clicking.
i mean you take off the jumpsuit and that drops their pockets and ID, you take off the hardsuit (if they have one) and that drops their back slot (if they have any) and starlight has it tuned high so it strips VERY fast (I think it is honestly faster). I think you should try it… except sec is one of the higher-timereq roles… just play abductor :>
I think its antag spawning that the issue.
Like its either 4 thiefs on top some agents or other way around.
Would be better if it was 3 agents and 1 thief plus some environmental events. 2 thiefs with 2 agents.(full pop)
And have only 1 thief and 2 agents MAX if its a nukie round.(full pop)
And if its middle pop then reduce numbers if it is mid pop or low pop
In that particular round it was full pop. To your point though there are quite a lot of thieves on NT stations… they truly will hire anyone apparently.
While I like the idea, we know the limbo purgatory that a stalled greenshift can be if a round is too slow…
I think this is more about the major antags being way too overpowering for a round rather than not having time for thieves (nor ninjas for that matter).
It just makes no sense OOC nor IC to arrest anyone if there are nukies, zombies or anything similar on the loose. And when those threats are done the station is evaccing anyway so…
I feel like rounds like nukies, wizard and zombies should prevent the other types of antags from spawning at randm (to avoid metagaming), as they really don’t work at all with those other antags.
