In-game Username: Tret
Discord username: Loonder_host
Characters you play: Flora Millhouse, Jane Slasher, Sara Mayer, Ruby Herald, Jake Millhouse.
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: 8~
Days you are available to admin on: My main days where I am avalible are: Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
How old are you? 18
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? While I have no experience in SS13, I have a massive amount of experience inside Frontier Station, along with a good amount of playtime inside RMC.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? Sadly, outside of administrating my own server (Loonder), I have no admining experience.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? No.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? My primary intrest of becoming an admin is keeping the Quality of Life up. Ensuring that the rounds run smoothly and stay fun for everyone involved. Its always annoying when theres that one thing, or person, that is deteoriating the round by playing like a shitter and I intend on helping fix those issues to make more rounds more fun for people involved.
I am also intrested in player interaction. Not in the admemey way of “lets make a dumb event” or whatever, I mean things like, responding to fax’s and prayers, giving people who seem really bored some motivation with side quests like for a doctor thats bored ill do something like: “Restore 2 people from crit for 500 spesos, signed CC.” This makes it so maybe people will get less bored? Idk.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? The only thing that I wouldnt like to do, at least until I am very experienced, is running events. I am very unfamiliar with RT and its mechanics and wouldnt want to run an event that people simply do not like.
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
I think the main role game admins serve inside of wizden servers, especially LRP, is a referee. I think this because with how LRP is and how it is normally the first server a new player will join you tend to get people who are not knowledgable of the mechanics. So as an admin the main job is to be able to referee people. I’ll take myself as an example, when I was very very new to the game I didn’t understand the rules and I had ended up throwing a player controlled hamlet into space, killing him. Now, that must have ruined the game for the hamlet player and if I was someone with 500h+ then I would have expected a ban, however since I had only around 10h at the time, I was left with a warning to say not to throw station pets out of the airlock, as not only did it ruin the game for the hamlet player, but it also ruined the game for any thief that could have had stealing hamlet as an objective.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I’ve been wanting to help out with admining on any community based project, and I have found what I believe to be my favourite community based project so far, that being SS14.
I want to be able to help out and let some stress off of the other admins. I’m unemployed and have a lot of freetime, I want to make it so others can spend their time doing what they like.
My main drive for applying now was seeing how much fire wizden was getting, which I dont think is fair considering the fact that SS14 as a whole is a community project and wizden is the main barer of the entire community, keeping the hub up alongside running four (used to be six) official game servers up.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I feel that the servers roleplay status are in a pretty good state following the MRP ammendments. There are certain slighty bad things about the lower roleplay server (mainly, the lizard servers reputation) however there are not that many big issues anymore. I’ve seen many people that used to play very NRPish now turn around and become better roleplayers, with some lrp servers becoming an mrp enviorment which is quite nice to see.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
I believe that any admin action that directly impacts the rounds have the biggest impact. On average, you’ll be changing the game for 40-60 people (of course, depends on the population of that server) and for some no matter what the thing you change is the change will be negative. I think outside of events admins should seek to not impact the round too much, as it could end up with some people being unhappy and not finding the game fun.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have never had any notible negative admin interactions, sure in the heat of some moments I may have disagreed but found myself looking at it from the admins point and then understanding why I got the punishment/warning I did.
My main thing in making sure people do not feel as if the ahelps that I handle are negative is questions. What I mean by this is say I was banning someone, I would explicitly ask them inside of the ahelp things like: “Do you understand why I am punishing you.” “Am I being clear enough?” and the such.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
I have had many great experiences inside of SS14, I dont have great memory however if we’re talking direct admin interaction I’d have to say my cursed tider round.
Essentially, an admin was answering all reasonable prayers for like 20 minutes. So, me as a tider decided that was a great chance for free insuls. I went to the chaplain and requested insuls at the altar, made a huge deal about it RP wise. To my disbelief I saw a pair of insuls appear in front of me, little did I know this was about to be the biggest troll I have ever seen. The insuls were not only unremovable, but had something like 10x shock damage applied. So I quickly shoved them on and went about doing tider things. I punched an APC while talking to someone and immedietly went into crit. I got treated and then it devolved into me and the chaplain attempting to removed this hex cursed from the “engineering demon” that had cursed the gods gifts with a hex that killed those who touched it. It lead to fantastic RP and I haven’t had that much fun as a tider in a while.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
As I have noted earlier, I would not be comfortable with impacting the round this early, especially without any pre planning due to my belief that impacting the round this early would pottentially ruin peoples gameplay experience. However, in the event that I decide to entertain the idea of “do something funny” I would ask the two of them what they would deem funny. If they simply said something to the event of “make the lights flicker” or something that would only effect the round for a few seconds, and would not effect people at all then perhaps I would do it if it was on LRP, if it was on MRP then it would matter what exactly I would be doing.
If they asked me to do something bigger than that however, I wouldn’t do anything and tell them “No, sorry.” since as of now I wouldn’t be comfortable doing something to impact the round for people and pottentially ruin it for even a single person.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
I would first ahelp the HoS asking a few questions about why he felt it was justified to coup the Captain. I would also ensure that the HoS would follow spacelaw in proccessing and booking the Captain if the reason given was justifiable and valid. If the reason is that the Cap had significantly broken the rules and there was no admin on before me, I would go and ahelp the captain respective of the issue that was brought to my attention.
As for the Clown, I would ask why he felt it was okay to steal the Captain’s Saber and what he plans to do.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would not feel comfortable banning someone permanantly for a first offense. I would question the admin why they felt it was needed to perma ban the person involved. If they give a very good reason, then I would issue a permanant ban alongside a note which said [name of the admin that told me to perma] said to permanantly ban this person due to [reason]. However, if the reason given seemed at all faulty, I would go ahead and follow with the proccedure I was told beforehand, leaving a secret note explaining the situation and then I would let a headmin know what I did and why, to make sure that I was in the right in doing what I did.
