Vulture Test Server

What is happening to Vulture?

Wizard’s Den Vulture is now a test server. This means that it will receive the latest development changes daily, as opposed to the bi-weekly updates that the other server receive.

Why Is Vulture becoming a test server?

We want a test server in order to be able to have players playtest changes made to the game before the bi-weekly release. This allows us to identify bugs and adjust gameplay changes quicker.

What does this mean for me as a player?

Nothing has really changed, however If you play on Vulture you will see changes much faster and you may encounter more bugs. All your characters and stats will still be shared with the other Wizard’s Den Servers.

We encourage you to report bugs you find on Vulture as issues on our GitHub. You can also submit bug reports on Discord.

You are also encouraged to share your thoughts about gameplay changes on our Discord, or in Feedback here on the forums.

Sick. If you don’t mind me asking, what are your servers run on (home server, rented out, whatever) and where do you get the funding? We could use another WizDen server, they are always full.

There used to be more WizDen servers specifically in the EU (if I remember correctly), but those were closed down some time ago due to there not being enough people to moderate them.

All our game servers are rented out from datacenters like hetzner and reliablesite. You can get more info here Wizards Den Infrastructure - Space Wizards Development Wiki

All the funding comes from Patreon https://www.patreon.com/c/spacestation14/home

We used to have more servers, but had to shut down some of them cause we didn’t have enough admins to handle them all. Hopefully in the future we can bring up some more servers again but currently I suggest you explore some other servers.

How exactly is that going to work if the database layout changes? Are you just going to hold vulture back until the DB change reaches stable?

Wouldn’t mind an EU server, but only if it can be admin’d properly. As is, US East works fine enough for a game like this.

Honestly as a salamander player, kinda jelous, that new Crovex map is awesome too bad I dont like LRP ruleset <3

they were also rarely ever used - miros, the last EU wizden server, was infamous for being perpetually lowpop before it was shut down.

I’ll handle it on a case-by-case basis.

Changes that break DB compat already need to be handled manually, because our game servers don’t all update at the same time (each waits for the round to end).

If we do have to manually handle a big database change I guess I’ll just immediately merge it into stable and then synchronize it across all servers.

Note that simpler stuff like new character loadouts options should already be handled. If you equip a new loadout option on Vulture and then connect to Levi it should just strip the item on load (and only remove it in the DB if you saved your character on Levi).

Like Myra already said: the problem with new servers isn’t the hardware or cost, it’s a lack of admins.

As the question was about another EU sever(at least one of them) when are EU times and when are US times, personally live in EU but only have time in the evening. And was holding back on applying as admin. So can I ask what is expected to be a admin. As I kind of want to give back to the community for this great game. (sorry if this is off topic, if it is can you pm me a answer and delete thsi reply?)

Thank you very, much, guess I should b a bit more active on the discord in that case.
