Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Game admin has four main role in my opinion
Maintaining order
Facilitating Player Engagement (helping new players to feel welcomed and helped)
Technical support
Conflict resolution
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
Well I heard that there were a shortage of game admin and i wanted to help out + I want to understand better from an admin perspective.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I feel like the game is going well in my opinion, its just that roleplay feels like a side optional objective for most people now days.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Resolving game side issues that negatively affects a player’s experience such as when you slip you can sometimes clip through walls. Its a well known bug but it is still very prevalence. And also teaches player about the game be it new players. Or query from any players.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Not many bad experience, its just sometimes i dont feel heard via admin chat, I will probably try my best to respond fast to players and resolve their problem if possible. Feedback is very important for a good admin to players relationships.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Yes i have several times met admins who are responsive and overall helpful to solving my problem/ query.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Well since players have join the game to get a chance to becoming antag, it wouldnt be fair for 3 observer to have the same chance early on. I would though amuse them and spawn 3 ghost role mouse. The goal is to not make the players feel ignored but at the same time I dont want to use my power to change course of the game or negatively affect others or make the antag role unfair since everyone should have an equal chance, meaning antags are to be randomize by event or choice.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
This is really context dependent if the cap was doing anything negative to the station or not. If he was an active negative interference to the station then the heads has a right to take up for a coup. Arming themselves are allowed since in this scenario they are assumed that captain is armed and would resist arrest. Keyword here is arrest, they are not out to seek for the captain’s head. The clown is just doing clown thing, the cap’s is supposed to be in charge of his equipment. I will in this scenario will have as little involvement as possible.
However, if its out of nowhere hos and hop wants to coup the cap, then first I will ask them for their reasoning, if its just “cause we hate him” I will tell them to roleplay their role and that a coup shouldn’t be the course of action they take. If its really for no reason then at best i would semi intervene, at worse as in the whole station is coup-ing the captain in a violent manner, I would call for a death squad as a LAST resort.
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
Are these two different ahelp? this is a confusing scenario question.
Assuming its the same ahelp, this is how i would solve the situation as an admin (not trial)
“A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense” This is not sufficient reason for a temporary ban, I would consult with a rule book for admin, or wait till a head admin is available. And proceed with what is told of me by the rule or higher position to do and not a fellow colleague.
“During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal” I would tell this admin that his role is to maintain a good player - admin interaction. and overloading the ban appeals with bans is not the way to go.
There is also some needed context to this, if the players had played for a long time or not. 500 hours with no issues does not warrant a indefinite ban for a first time issue. If the player was new or not. If the account seem to look like an alt use for causing issue. Overall the best course of action is to consult a head admin if possible. If not possible my next course of action is follow the rule book of the admin
