On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week:
8-14
Days you are available to admin on:
Every day, outside of hours I am working.
How old are you?
25
Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience?
Only a few hours in SS13 and a few hours on the DeltaV server. 99% of my experience is within the Wizard’s Den SS14 servers.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)?
No
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers?
Yes
Admins have the ability to perform various tasks which are not available to the average player. An incomplete list of these tasks is: in-game rule enforcement, in-game events, ban appeals, and out-of-game rule enforcement through things like replay/log reviews in response to player reports. With these, and any other tasks you’re aware of in mind, answer the following two questions.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin?
Adminning rounds and responding to AHelps, and making rounds more enjoyable for players.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin?
Out-of-game rule enforcement
Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning.
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
To improve the enjoyment of round-to-round gameplay, enforce rules where necessary, help players with questions/concerns, and generally make the game a better experience for everyone as a whole.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I have been playing for a while now, and want to generally improve the gameplay experience and give back to the playerbase. I have also noticed there are often no admins online during times I play (Australian timezones), and would be willing to step up for an opportunity to contribute to the admin team.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I primary play on LRP, so there are a lot of players who do not put a lot of effort into the actual role-play side of the game; However there are a lot of players who do compensate for that with excellent ( and often hilarious ) roleplay and characters.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Responding to AHelps and answering any questions players might have.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I have had a couple negative experiences regarding being AHelped or warned for situations I was not at fault for (verifiable via public forum complaints and updated admin notes ingame). If I were to be accepted as an admin, I would do my best to make sure I’d only be interfering or warning people when needed, as I am 100% sure the admins who have interacted with me in the past have been too.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
Honestly, this game is filled with good experiences. To think of a recent one, it was a round on April Fools day where I had insulted Tippy The Clown via radio and he ended up calling in a hit on me stationwide, leading to myself having to run for my life from the hoard of passengers chasing me around every corner. There are plenty more memorable moments I’ve had also.
The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Scenarios intentionally leave out information so that you can describe how different details would affect your response. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how different assumptions would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
It would depend really on how much adememing had been happening in the previous round. If the server has been relatively quiet, I could do something minor, like for example make Hamlet 50% larger.
If the previous round had for example, a full on admin event (like rimworld), I would be more inclined to ignore the requests, as ‘vanilla’ rounds are also an important part of a healthy gameplay balance. In this scenario I could also elect to do something minor such as recolor the ghosts of the players requesting something funny, as a way to have a little fun but not interact with the round itself per-say.
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
HoS and HoP: I would speak to each player and remind them that something like a coup would require admin permission first. If the players are generally known to be well-behaved I would determine if their actions were justified by however Captain had been acting. If the Cap hadn’t done anything to justify a coup I would warn the players to stop, and escalate further as needed. As for HoP specifcally, I would also ask them to stick to weaponry more suited for their role, such as a disabler or handheld flash, if they were to assist in apprehending the Captain.
Captain and Quartermaster: Depending on how long they are hiding in space on the cargo shuttle, I would either not interfere at all, or if they were hiding in space for what is a disruptive amount of time for 2 heads to be off station, I would likely AHelp the Captain and just let him know his job is to be on-station.
Clown: As in this situation the Clown has stolen the Captains Sabre and is presumably hunting down the Captain, I would issue a warning to him if he has not actually hurt anybody yet. If he has been attacking crew, then this is a blatant self-antag situation and I would likely issue a ban.
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I would likely issue a temporary ban, and explain to the other admin my reasoning for doing so, which is as follows: The player has no prior offences, and I have been told that other admins are generally issuing only temporary bans for this kind of issue. If the issue is significant, it could be set to a longer length to compensate. If the player returns and begins causing similar issues again after being unbanned, then this could reasonably lead to an appeal-only ban do to shown bad behaviour.
If there are any questions or clarifications needed, I’m happy to answer further in the replies to this post. Thank you for the consideration
