In-game Username: Weige
Discord username: Big Weige
Characters you play: I have many and make new ones constantly, but the main ones are Chuck Fluckster, Holliver Caboose, Max Raub, Toad Rogan, and Spode Mcrib
On average, how many hours do you expect to admin per week: It depends but around 6-10 hours a week at least, sometimes way more
Days you are available to admin on: I will be available most evenings and late nights PST. The times I often play there are no admins on.
Are you at least 18 years old? Yes
How long have you been playing SS13 or SS14? I have 270 hours on ss14 and COUNTLESS hours on ss13, I have been playing ss13 since 2010 on and off across many servers
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? I have no admin experience in Space station but I have lead and officered multiple world of warcraft guilds and Dungeon mastered for many years. I have more experience leading in other niche games that I dont feel the need to list but if you want I could dig through my brain to remember them all.
Have you been banned from our game servers or SS13 servers before? No
_ Answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you’d approach adminning. _
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Besides being the police against self antags and obvious griefers I think admins are in a sense dungeon masters. Guiding and encouraging roleplay while policing bad behavior. I also believe admin events (Done correctly) can greatly improve a round or add spice to a round when the traitors are not creating enough chaos for the station to be interesting.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the server?
I only have played on Lizard but Its leaning toward NRP rather than LRP. Compared to ss13 I think the RP is lacking but it can be fixed by encouraging and rewarding good players who go out of their way to improve the round through interesting roleplay. I have already seen many times through my actions and others that when someone goes all in on the character it lets other players feel comfortable to do the same.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
I love this game and have loved this game since 2010, I want to be a part of making it great. I feel my perspective of someone playing it for 13 years is valuable and I believe I have a lot to offer this game through admining and other contributions such as map making and sprite work.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
Creating interesting events and also giving bad behavior a chance to be fixed before slamming down the ban hammer.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
Every experience with admins I have had has been great, I have asked multiple times about rule clarifications and the always help.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
As said above I often ask about rule clarifications because I like to create interesting situations for the station that could border on self antag. They have always cleared up any rule I have questions about.
The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions.
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. A chaplain prays to you “Give me a task my lord”.
There are many factors to this. First thing first if I know the chaplain player and know they are a good RP’er that can make interesting content for the station I am more likely to give them something fun to do that doesn’t destroy other people’s fun. Secondly, I would give the traitors time to do their own story and not empower a non antag to overshadow the real antagonists. If the round is quiet and the traitors are mostly waiting for something to happen so they have a better chance to succeed I might consider making something happen through the chaplain. The core part however is giving the traitors enough time to make their own story.
You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like “shitsec”. A secoff tells the clown that they’re being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals.
This one is very very tricky because I believe this is an IC issue fundamentally. The issue in this situation is not the clown but the self antag passenger. I would say the core thing I would look at is how effective the passenger is at grey tiding and how quickly Sec can regain control of the situation. In a perfect world both the clown and the passenger go to the brig but if the passenger is super robust and more than half of sec is flailing around trying to contain a self antag while the real antags roam free I think the passengers actions fall into griefing. Its a difficult call though because on a side note I believe sec should have more leeway to perma people. I have seen COUNTLESS rounds where greytiders self antags just grief sec the entire time and they keep being let out to do more shenanigans. I believe perma should always be a threat to any lawbreakers because some tiders are more dangerous to the station than the antags. I also personally believe perma RP is amazing so I might be biased in wanting perma to be used more.
You log in to handle an ahelp that came in while nobody was online about “self-antag” activity. The player being reported as self-antagging was being a problem and could be considered acting outside of the rules, but they are no longer online and cannot be contacted about their behavior. While outside of the rules, the infractions are minor and would not normally result in more than a warning in most cases.
I do not know the tools that admins have but, if possible, I would note the player so other admins are aware of their actions and if they act up again, we have the receipts to prove it. In general I only think punishments should be handed out if a player deliberately ruins the round for someone with no purpose besides screw that guy. Welder bombing in maints and killing themselves is a rule break but no one was really hurt by it. Constantly uncuffing people sec is trying to arrest for no reason is a different story.
