Cleaning my C drive from trash i stumbled upon “C:\Users\Micelium\AppData\Local\Space Station 14” directory which weights 1.4 Gigabites, i understand that it probably contains servers information etc. but the fact that it does it on my C drive and not in it’s dedicated directory makes me really upset since i have very limited C drive capacity. So, it would be really nice if you could move this directory elsewere.
I do agree you should be able to customize the data location here.
But to address the original question: That file there stores every server content. Old and new from all forks.
The main advantage here is that you don’t have to download the whole game again when you join a fork/a server update. Just what you don’t have downloaded already. The usual full client is around 200mb.
1.1 gb to be honest is not too much considering other modern games. But I do understand the concern.
Ps: you can click on “clear server content” in the launcher for a faster way to clean up storage.
Yeah, 1.1 Gb is not too much considering other modern games, and I completely okay with this was stored to save time in joining servers.
However, the main issue is that while modern games can weight up to 200Gb they do it on drives, that have a lot of capacity and are meant to store this games. And they do not use my system drive as storage for heavy files.
From my perspective, as a regular player, there are no reasons why it is located where it is located and believe that the default storage location for server content should be in a game directory.
But if this is the optimal and has reasons, then I have no choice but to accept this.
I think being able to customize the file path is critical. After all you can even do it for your steam libraries, my system drive is only a 256gb ssd so it would be critical for me to be able to manage my content better.
Yes I am attempting to work on something for this.
