Events leading to the ban
Events In the Order They Happened
- Shift start ask cap about a station wide quest to get 1 person near AA, for a fun shift gimmick.
He says no, say alright np, go about my day trying to figure out how hop works and working the desk - Unbeknownst to me throughout all this, cap starts telling all of command that I am just giving out AA and a threat to the station
- A passenger wants a new job, dressed in merc gear. I ask abt qualifications/what theyâre good at, they tell me lore on how theyâre a mercenary for hire and would love to work for me, I say why not, stamp some papers, give em my disabler, and tell em to follow me. Have some small talk and tell em no access/additional equipment though unless HoS approves.
- Visit church and bar for a tiny bit since thereâs talk of a fire god and head back to office, continue to do work + learn
- AI buggs me abt coords or something on holopads I pass for awhile.
- There is a small thing on radio where I told AI ânahâ and they said âyeahâ and we repeated back and forth, a bit of spam to be fair.
- A musician asks me for help with locker access for instrument storage, and I try to learn how access configurators work properly.
- Cap calls in a meeting for all heads. Not all show, but me, him, RD, HoS are there. Says Iâm getting demoted for âinsubordinationâ. I ask for clarification/examples on what he means by that, since I was trying to do my job (and itâs not a valid reason under space law). I was also worried I was doing my job wrong since it was my first time as HoP after rolling for awhile. Goes in circles for ages without additional reasoning besides âinsubordinationâ and to just hand over my stuff.
- Cap tells HoS to arrest me, he is hesitant without a crime. Eventually everyone else just leaves the room without a consensus or arrest. I tell cap that this is silly and I gotta go back to work.
- Cap follows me, starts stripping / cuffing me. I tell em to stop. Cap starts stunning me. My bodyguard stuns cap. I take the disabler on the floor, step back, and tell cap to leave.
Cap starts lethaling us with laser, I stun em. Pick up laser. Tell em to stop. - Sec comes in and arrests me
- I ahelp, continue the round with not much more eventful besides jail, getting assassinated, and later borgâd at evac time. I get bwoinked for self-antag and power gaming instead and get DW.
Reason the ban should be removed
Iâm basing a lot of this off of the SS14 Dev. Wiki MRP Policy page.
First up: Powergaming (hiring a bodyguard / âblueshieldâ)
I think the intent and events that transpired matters here. According to the âDo not Powergameâ rule, it states: âYou must have an In-Character justification for your actionsâ
A person came up in full merc gear to my desk with lore/backstory about being a bodyguard and wanting to be hired as one (and they suggested myself as the one to be guarded). I was unaware of the concept of a âblueshieldâ, but I wanted to further their roleplay concept instead of just saying no. I had thought the job of a hop if someone wants a job is to try and get them an avenue towards it when possible. My character also thought it would probably be just a generally cool idea since it would make him look more awesome roaming around. To me it was more a coolness factor and not to protect stuff. I believe I had enough IC justification regardless.
I understand a strike like this if I was seeking it out roundstart, or arming them up with lethals and armor, and cuffs, or something crazy, but they came up to me with a bunch of lore, and it was honestly to go with the RP they were providing me and further it, not as some any meta strat, as well I didnât provide them with any more total gear than what I already had on my person (making me personally more vulnerably in the process).
Part 2: Self-Antag (Resisting Arrest/Demotion)
The Rule on the wiki states: âDo not make yourself a major problem, annoyance, or disruption while not an antagonistâ and examples include, cults, revolutions, murder, spacing, etc.
I felt like this event did not fit the criteria for self-antag.
I was being demoted for something I felt like I didnât do, is not a valid reason under space law, and would not be given more clarification on (insubordination). The HoS at the time didnât arrest me when ordered and there was general confusion and no group consensus on what was being done post meeting.
Furthermore, when the actual arrest/fighting started, I did not start it (my bodyguard started shooting when I started getting disabled/cuffed), I purely picked up the disabler on the ground to continue not getting shot, backed up and told cap to please stop and leave, and only fired back with disabler rounds after I was getting shot with lethal lasers. I then picked up the capâs laser and didnât use it once he was stunned. I feel like these are perfectly normal things to do IC and OOC and showed restraint unless Iâm supposed to just stand still and get lethalâd (made no sense IC and OOC). I was also just trying to get back to my job since people were waiting on me.
Part 3: Competence (??? Not Sure Specific Reason)
The MRP policy page has competence strikes listed as, âAbuse of a Position of Authorityâ, âTaking actions a reasonable person would view to be a detriment to the stationâ, and âFailure to uphold Space Law as Security/Commandâ.
I felt like all my actions were reasonable. I did not abuse my authority in any way, and I did not break any parts of Space Law. I was also genuinely trying to do and learn my job and help others, letting there be no HoP would be a huge detriment to the station. Unless leaving my room to check out the church ceremony announcement or let people pet my dog at bar for 2 minutes while I got a drink, while no one was at my desk, counts as âincompetenceâ, I am genuinely uncertain what âincompetenceâ rule I broke. And of course, I didnât hand out AA or anything.
Part 4: Comms
I noticed there was a note on comms spam. Although itâs not on the policy page, I did spam âNahâ vs AIâs âYeahâ for like 10 seconds because they were bugging me abt something for like the 5th time and I really just wanted to learn HoP and was stressed. In retrospect, shouldnât have done it on comms, or just ignored em; it was a bit too silly, one Nah wouldâve been fine. Iâm not sure if itâs relevant for the strikes and DW, but I feel like if so, it is a bit harsh for a one time thing w/ no warning. But I am sorry for doing it in the first place regardless.
Regardless of outcome, thank you for taking the time to read and investigate all this, sorry if itâs a lot.
