Banned Roles: All of Security
Ban reason: Too long, copying in "Events Leading to Ban" Section
Length of ban: Week Roles / Whitelist perm?
Ban Issue:
I did what I was banned for, but the ban is unreasonably harsh
Events leading to the ban
Ban Message: “You have been rolebanned from security for a week and dewhitelisted per your actions during Salamander round 77264. This is unacceptable as security under any circumstances. Take this time to reread Roleplay Rules 14 and 15, especially if you hope to be rewhitelisted in the future. Per the MRP policy, this action counted as a full three strikes.”
Events that transpired:
- A person brought a welder tank to HoP’s wall
- When I came over HoP said “Do it pussy, chicken, bock bock, etc.” repeatedly and pointed at me
- I said I would come back, came back with a lighter
- I asked if they were REALLY SURE they wanted me to blow it up
- Continued same remarks from point 2
- I made sure everyone backed up from the tank, so only I got injured, and blew it up, causing minor station damage, and injuring myself.
I accepted responsibility of station destruction IC and turned myself in and pleaded for jail time for the minor destruction.
Reason the ban should be removed
I saw that by not complying with HoP’s orders to blow up the tank, I would be breaking the ‘failure to comply rule’ of Space Law (Roleplay Rule 15) since they were a higher up. In retrospect, the order was still very stupid, so I should’ve not done it, regardless of my characters’ roleplay reasons (not wanting to be seen as a coward or seeing my character as one who would blissfully follow the heads’ orders). I let RP get in the way of common sense.
That being said, I mostly understand a temp role ban, but I believe a complete dewhitelisting and 3 strikes is a bit harsh for a moderate crime, especially since I made roleplay efforts IC to get punishment for my actions, double checked with the higher up, and made sure that no one else besides me got injured/involved. I didn’t just blindly do it on a whim or anything - I tried to RP along the whole way.
IC I saw it as setting an example that security are not cowards and should follow orders, however I understand that at the same time I set a bad example for other people on the station (broke Roleplay Rule 14)…since it encourages blowing stuff up when told.
Regardless, I am sorry for my actions, I was attempting to play into HoP and make it a RP moment and not just be a shitter, but it crossed the lines of the seriousness of MRP and in general and was just generally a bit out of line. I will use more common sense in the future.
