Do you have any SS14 experience outside of Wizard’s Den servers, or any SS13 experience? no.
Do you have prior administration experience (SS13/SS14 experience preferred, please also post a way for us to verify this)? no.
Have you ever been banned from any SS14 or SS13 servers? no.
What are you primarily interested in doing as an admin? in game rule enforcement, and in-game events, however I’m open to new ideas and prospects.
when it comes to Rule enforcement, I’ve wanted to take a hand in keeping servers such as lizard a happy and fun filled environment, I’ve seen players quit or move to other servers due to player related friction, I’ve seen a number of looc related scenario go down, most of which can be avoided and not cause strife if a mediator is present. fighting among players hurts to see even more so if it results in a player retiring from the game. someone self antaging or a group of raiders showing are important things to handle, without question. but I’d like to focus on player relation and overall wellness where I can as I think it will lead to a better experience.
What are you least interested in doing as an admin? failure, I hate to not live up to expectations and I’m not perfect. anything needing doing is worth an attempt if I’m allowed to try
Detail Questions
What role do you think game admins serve on our servers?
Admins are here to ensure the player experience is a good one, plain and simple. if that’s the occasional event or addressing a rule break, whatever the situation a admin makes game flow and health stable. a note to make though is not to vulture parent the crew, if a Singo looses or a sec officer overdoes it there are times where immediate action isn’t a required solution, allowing the crew to utilize the ahelp system or even in some cases letting a problem solve itself organically can work effectively. people make mistakes, I know I have, plenty of green players come and go not understanding basic controls or hotkeys. in synopsis admins safeguard a server from rule offenders, those who wish to spread hate, cheaters and more. but the players are some smart, well put together individuals and can handle themselves, if they need admin intervention it’s there and available but hawking over players might instill a sense of fear or unease.
Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14?
after hopper shut down, I read about the admin migration and the gaps it left, second, I hate raiders and the more available hands to deal with them entices me, also I want the community of ss14 to stay well-knit and not see people dissatisfied and quit. furthermore, I want to see that side of space station and see if I can make the game more enjoyable. beyond the previously listed I thought, why the hell not its worth a try. the worst that can happen is i get rejected, which gives me more time to play space station.
How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the servers?
I’m indifferent, they feel adequate.
Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact?
answering player questions and admin events. this game is so intrinsic, letting players know what the ruling would be on things, or just keeping people up to date on rules doesn’t hurt and is utilized frequently, and ad memes are notorious, they speak for themselves.
Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this?
I was the captain on oasis station. nukies invaded and ran me down with hyperzine injection. whilst potting shots and running using the maints and dispo to escape most of the crew died. in the first moments of the attack i moved the enemy nuke on to a solar array catwalk, so the nukies couldn’t use it, when everyone was dead and the nukies couldn’t find the nuke all dead chat could think is about how i fucked up and stalled the round out. to prevent a situation like this moving the nuke or giving the nukies a way to find it would’ve been nice.
Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it?
basically any interaction with reisama, samuka, emisse, or admiralobvious, weather it was questions in admin questions chat on the discord or admemes/questions in game. i won’t forget the admeme event reisama did where a cc official arrived on station and was looking to see if the station was profitable, the required station profit kept rising and rising until cargo couldn’t handle it anymore. then there was this mysterious mr.gorlex that arrived and had the cure to all our problems. the station was split: side with nt or jump ship and trust in gorlex. as CMO i stayed with the official in the end a was spared by the ensuing DS sent to recollect the official when everything went south.
Scenario Questions
Scenario 1
It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. There are three players who decided to observe the round instead of join it orbiting you. Two of them are encouraging you to “do something funny”.
Letting the two observers say “do something funny” is what it is, ignoring or not addressing it if it’s a one-off comment or brief is fine, if they continue to press me on it ill remind them that players are not entitled to events or admin shenaniganry and to allow the round to proceed as follows, people get excited and want to see something happen so be it, but if it reaches a level of over doing it a nudge in the right direction can’t hurt. now this is granted i didn’t already plan to do something of that nature, should i already have plans to as they say “something funny” ill let them know patience is a virtue and to wait and see, depending on the “funny” in question perhaps ill leave it to suspense.
Scenario 2
This scenario takes place on LRP. The Head of Security has decided to coup the Captain. The Head of Personnel agrees with the Head of Security and has taken up arms in case it is necessary to aid in effecting the arrest of the Captain. The Captain is hiding with the Quartermaster in the cargo shuttle to avoid the Clown who has stolen the captains saber as a non-antag. There are five people named in this scenario. Please describe what actions, if any, you would take in relation to each, and why.
Firstly, I need to understand the actions each person has taken and why. asking each via ahelp will get me a fuller scope of each players intent. second i need to know what has already taken place, the clown at least has committed major contra and also most likely assault but i cant assume the latter. its good to know what the captain has been up to, has the captain overstepped their command role and abused they’re power? could be true, the hos and hop both agree that the captain should be placed under arrest but what for exactly? another possibility is that its NOT the captain and actually a fake, all be it a wizard or an effective Syndi disguise. if everyone is who they say they are and there’s no lines to read between then the clown should be punished for self antanging (more so for the attack on cap (granted that happened)) and the hos and hop should be questioned as to why a coup was considered (based on experience my best guess is miscommunication or lack thereof) and sort from there, with either the captain receiving some level of punishment or the hos. (the hop may also be considered based on involvement, but it seems the hos conceived the idea of the coup, so larger fault falls on them) it’s hard to know exactly what steps are to be taken without given context but that’s how id do it, questions first then effective action
Scenario 3
You are ahelping a player about an issue. The player has no prior noted issues. A few days earlier, an admin had told you that this type of situation should result in a temporary ban for a first offense, and you are confident that this situation is not substantially different from the type that admin was describing. During the ahelp, another admin pings you on Discord with a link to the ongoing ahelp and tells you to just indefinitely ban them and make them appeal. Excluding trialmins and headmins, all admins are equally “ranked”. A headmin is not currently available.
I take my own judgment first, is the crime befitting the punishment, then i ask and consider why another admin would be adamant i take a harsher action against a player, they may have a unseen reason or info i didn’t know. all admins are equally ranked and would be my peers its at least worth hearing them out. if they provide substantial evidence then ill proceeded as they request, if they fail to do so then ill do a temp ban as i originally intended. its important to inform the headmin of the event and to see what i should do if this were to happen again.
