I think this is worth getting feedback from our playerbase.
As a reminder, everyone can get whitelisted for the PR discussions here, it just takes a few clicks.

Also linking the more general discussion about the current state of MRP gameplay on WizDen where this suggestion came up:

Forgot to actually do this when the CVAR was made. This will certainly help Mander but it’s one piece in the 250-piece puzzle of improving Mander mechanically.

I would be okay with it if we also introduce pinktexting.
Without it, it will just feel shallow.

This feels like yet another thing that makes the MRP server feel like a gimped version of LRP. Rather than catering to the intended experience, features that don’t confirm to it are just removed. This is kinda an unavoidable result of how sala works (being the same codebase as the LRP servers) but this feels like a very backwards way of going around and improving things.

What’s pinktexting?

Instead of greentext, you get a little input field in your character menu underneath objectives in which you can explain whether you think you completed your objectives, what you did overall, or some gimmick you were doing this round.

Ah, I could look into that

Pinktexting is not something I would have upstream. Especially since moderating that is not something we can easily do (given that Salamander already has not much coverage).

I do fully support this, as in the short-term this is probably as good as its gonna get before any dynamic objectives and such. MRP can put on a pressure to perform, you need to whitelisted and the rules are stricter, so players will try and at least complete an objective and the easiest objectives allot of times is noct + minibomb some poor sod. Players feel a NEED to act, a player not yesterday was converted to a rev mid shuttle flight to CC at the end of the shift, and shuttle bombed because they felt they NEEDED to do something in order to help towards the antag objective even if of course shuttle bombing is against the rules.

This will help alleviate that feeling, as well hopefully encouraging more risky and interesting strategies over the constant meta since you’re not graded infront of everyone. I think in the short-term, at worst its makes things marginally better and at best is a good stop-gap to better things.

I feel like this is the sorta mindset that makes MRP meh.
We wanna do something for MRP, moderation wont be too big of a pain as long as pinktext is on the logs (and the replay viewer, potentially)
So why would it be a pain to moderate?

The issue is that you can’t retroactively change the text stored on the replay.

Then lets only save it in the logs. Then it can be easily accessible for admins and won’t linged anywhere we don’t want it to

Unfortunately, the way replays work for saving the round end text only allow the whole text to be stored how it’s shown to the users. Disabling storing the round end text in the metadata file completely is a huge breaking change.

Doesn’t it apply to any text in the game?

Im not a fan of this. The round end screen is a summary, it gives a quick overview of things that happened during the round. Without green/redtexting, I have to rely on people bragging for that.

I like this suggestion for the exact reason some people don’t.
Not having the game authoritatively tell you that you “won” prioritizes everyone you interacted with knowing that you accomplished something.
A true victory is having everyone talking about what you accomplished in OOC, not from green text.

I like the suggestion of pinktext. I could definitely mald about blowing it as a thief in there.

The concept isn’t unreasonable. It kinda sucks when your objective is “kill Urist, medical doctor.” And Urist cryos. Then you’re left with a free unsatisfying green text and all that TC burning a hole in your pocket.
Having some means to assign a new comparible objective instead would be nice.

On one hand, there does need to be some means to add measurable objectives. It gives the antagonist a direction to push in.
On the other, we all know the people who chase greentexts at expense of all else, their and other people’s fun included. I don’t think there’s a mechanical solution for that. We can’t mechanically enforce fun after all.

I am of the camp that if greentexting is removed there should be atleast be some way to say “I did that” instead of getting lost in the flood of OOC. pinktext would be a good way to do that. but if EOR is the issue I think starlight did a good fix. they moved EOR to when the shuttle leaves for centcomm instead of when it docks which makes it so doing objectives on the shuttle wont net you the greentext anyways.
