I think admin glasses should be removed from hop/cap's roundstart kit

I will be direct and honest here, due the timing of when this item was added right after hop/cap were forbidden of wearing secglasses because of the contraband update i am 100% sure the adming glasses pr was made only for give the powergamer hop/cap players they secglasses back. I don’t like this item, it feels like a powergamer item made only because secglasses aren’t legal for command outside of hos anymore and this kind of items shouldn’t be a thing. No, hop/cap doesn’t need this kind of item at all for do they job as it only allows them to validhunt as sechop/cap or ignore roleplay with anyone who happens to even have the sus mark on them easily and it i can see this being really frustrating for new players who aren’t used to dealing with command as antags.
Admin glasses should become a cc/ds/cb thing only, if cap/hop REALLY need to see wanted people that much they could just get the wanted list on they pdas roundstart instead of the glasses. Wanted list is way more balanced and less of a powergamer item at the admin glasses.

Edit: i was informed the admin glasses don’t show you who is wanted. This makes them look even worse for me as it means these items were pretty much only made for allow cap/hop players to keep metagaming thief/syndie gloves as they have no real utility for they jobs and can’t do anything what hop/cap can already do with the inspect button.

Administration glasses can only see Job Icon.
It cannot see Wanted/suspect nor mindshield status.

HoP/Captain speedrunning wanted list pda to validhunt would get the same “stick to your role” punishment as SecHUD/SecGlasses.

We have wanted lists in the PDA now for sec. I’d honestly go back to the old days of secglasses being locked behind science researching them (which would mean basically never) and have sec have to choose between glasses or the HUD.

I see, i still think the timing of when the pr was made right after secglasses were removed for command (but hos) makes this a item just made for allow them to powergame, and since they can’t see the wanted list it clearly was made specifically for see when they lose they pda to syndie/thief gloves (they REALLY hate those gloves for some reason).
As i stated before they don’t need it for they job. for hop it isn’t much different at inspecting the id while you are talking with the guy right on the other side of your desk (or after he gave it to you) and cap doesn’t need the item at all. It just promotes less roleplay for the more meta command players and i don’t like it.

Honestly this would be the ideal solution but i don’t know if it will go through, sec glasses are really good and help the cadets a lot to learn how to be a secoff. I would honestly rather keep the secglasses and just remove the admin glasses and make it a CC only item.

I 100% agree with you, ive shared this same sentiment. It was almost 100% made for powergamers who couldnt cope with being constantly ahelped. also makes stealth pointlessly harder

honestly, I think if we were to go this far, why not go all the way and make them a HoS exclusive item?

the HOS already gets security glasses, i don’t see the point with giveing them admin glasses too

i was referring to Admiral’s suggestion that secglasses should be sci locked.

So if Captain sees someone killing someone he should just comms it and do nothing else?

How would Security function without the glasses though? The flashes inside security would constantly flash them. Sechud doesn’t stop that

Before secglasses were a thing sec had sunglasses and the sec hud (yes they had to swap between them if they wanted either flash protection or be able to see ids/mindshield).

Weldmasks are printable now so it would not be too hard living with sechud now. :godo:

Then there are 3 guratanteed per engi locker in maints.

This shouldn’t be standard though. Security should not be forced to wear welding masks just to not flash themselves. Especially when it doesn’t work with hard suits.

I don’t see the issue with Administration Glasses. If HoP is using it to play as security than punish them. Captain on the other hand should at the very least be able to arrest people and help security as they would with engineering/medical/science/cargo if they needed Captains help at all.

Sec + hards are already all kinds of fucky.

Want jetpack? Either one isn’t mapped or its not even in EVA so gotta get em bought good while earlier.

If there are jets then its likely that they are sec jetpacks that are blacklisted from suit storage unlike captain/minijets so you have to give up:

  • Backpack, good luck in game like SS14 especially after sec lost webbing utility.
  • Ability to fight properly as Wardens and HoSes are constantly allergic to maintaining armory or giving out equipment when needed, assuming its even mapped, so you will be down to disablers and 2 .35 clips assuming you did not need to use them before.

If you do have minijets and want to place them on suit slot, you are still facing issue of security being ill issued for space combat + lack of T2/3 internals recipes. So you will have to constantly juggle T1s to not die and minmax pressure or supercool o2 canister with atmos long before you need it.

Few stations have T3 internals in EVA and some even give sec access there, but its not standard at all and there is no guarantee it wasn’t looted already so sec relies on maints loot roundstart in order to have proper equipment later if they want to have alternative to oxygen suit storage.

Now lets add sunglassess and sechud juggling on top. :godo:

I will be incredibly blunt and say this seems to be a suggestion for intentionally hostile game design. It makes positions more tedious and does not account for the different gear that is available specifically to counteract the abilities of these items. I have personally never found security difficult to evade with the use of DNA scramblers, voice masks, and suits. I recommend anyone seriously in favor of these changes to play both security and command to get a better understanding of how exactly this would kneecap the operation of the station, and also the interest of many players in these positions.

As mentioned before in this thread the admin glasses only make stealth (particulary pda theft) more hard for no reason, cap/hop don’t need the admin glasses for anything they can’t already do with the inspect button. It is basically bootleg secglasses made RIGHT AFTER secglasses were made sec only and i hate it.
The fact at i can use 25% or more of my tc and/or play in a way for deal with this item doesn’t mean this item should stay or at it is a good addition to the game. Yes you can counter it but these counters were made originally for secglasses and playing around sec not for deal with the admin glasses in particular.

I’ve stolen from cap many times even with admin glasses existing. So I really don’t think this is an issue. Player shouldn’t be trying to take from cap if he’s obviously focused on you really.

Admin glasses are honestly the best in-between for HOP and Cap because sec glasses posed the issue with them always being aware of who was wanted or suspicious and they don’t need that bias when doing their job like sec does.

I don’t understand. Why exactly should you be able to steal a pda while a security officer is staring directly at you? Is everyone else supposed to be walking loot containers to be taken from at will? The game is also about normal crew members having fun too, not just the antagonists.
